Editor,

I wrote this poem to express appreciation for the performance and beautiful music by the hard-working cast and crew of Shenandoah. The play was a poignant reminder of the many brave and courageous men and women from all walks of life: those who stay at home as well as those who go; all of whom deserve respect and honor for sacrifices made. May our Father in heaven, who gave his best too, comfort all those who have lost loved ones.

“Shenandoah, Remembering the Brave”

The actors and actresses,
they were all great.
They made it real,
and worth the wait.

They lifted up the heroes,
so all could see.
Without the heroes,
where would we all be?

We know war is hell.
a terrible fate.
For those involved,
the toll is great.

The sorrow to give,
ones so dear,
ones so cherished,
ones so near.

Our hearts, they break,
in two for the price.
To explain it away,
make light their sacrifice.

Not to be measured,
the heartache and woe.
If there was no need,
who would ever go?

But go some must,
and give their all.
And we must honor them,
whether they stand or fall.

They chose to give,
and die for others.
Give their lives
for sisters and brothers.

Our Creator in heaven,
he knows their price.
He gave like that too,
he knows the sacrifice.

He gave his Only Son,
to suffer and die.
His heart broke too,
and that’s no lie.

So let’s work to end strifes,
and pray for peace,
for battles to end,
and wars to cease.

And let’s give the brave
their reward that’s due.
No honor too great,
for those who are true.
