ST. IGNATIUS – The Good Old Days weekend kicked off Friday afternoon with a pageant for boys and girls where Lola Schock, 7, was crowned Little Miss Good Old Days. Later that evening, Lola’s mom, Mrs. Montana 2013 Alyssa Schock, passed her crown on to Mrs. Montana 2014, Cindy Archer.
Alyssa Schock’s crown wearing experience also helped her daughter get the extra big crown to stay on Lola’s head.
Little Miss Good Old Days pageant organizer Pam Thompson brought the event back for its second year with a line-up of judges including Holly Lapka Archer; Mrs. Hawaii 2013 Jaci Agustin and Ellie Brustkern, Teen America Dream.
“This gives kids a place to showcase their talent and learn to dream big,” Thompson said.
Last year’s Little Miss winner, Grace Martello, 9, traveled from Missoula to win second place this year. She said she enjoyed competing so much last year for the first time that she went on to compete in several other pageants.
“Doing this builds my confidence,” she said. “I like coming out on stage and doing a routine. I love to see the dresses the girls wear.”
Friday evening the new Mrs. Montana was crowned in the amphitheater. Alyssa Schock, daughter of Jera Stewart and stepdaughter of the late L. Douglas “Colonel Doug” Allard, was born and raised in St. Ignatius.
“There’s just awesome people there,” she said in a phone interview. “There’s no better place to give up my title and welcome (Archer) into my support system … all the people have just kind of loved me this whole year.”
While serving as Mrs. Montana, Schock promoted healthy lifestyle choices and encouraged others who suffer from chronic illness.
“I put the word out there that I also suffer from lupus and rheumatoid arthritis,” Schock said. “I mentor other people with chronic diseases that they can do anything.”
