POLSON — Polson school board trustees approved a 2-percent salary increase for non-represented employees and a 2-percent increase for administrators for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years. The teachers and the classified staff had not voted at the time of the meeting on June 14.

Polson Classified Union president Lynn Witts said the classified union voted for the 2-percent increase.

“We did get some language changes,” Witts said. “We got longevity and two extra paid holidays so I think we did pretty good.”

Longevity means an automatic raise after every five years of employment by the district — after five years it would be 10 cents, after 10 years it would be 20 cents.

Witts said negotiations went better than she thought they would since the Polson School Board hired Andy Sever from the Montana School Board Association to negotiate for them.

In other business, the board also upped the pay for substitute workers in the schools for the next year. Both certified and non-certified substitute teachers will earn $80 per day during the 2014-15 school year.

Wages also will be raised for substitutes for non-instructional/instructional aid l, $8.75; paraprofessional l, paraprofessional ll, $9.50; secretaries, $9.50; and food service workers, $9.50.

The board also approved out-of-state travel during the fall for Polson High School student wrestlers to Idaho and cross-country runners to Washington.

A special executive meeting was set for July 18 for goal setting and Superintendent Linda Reksten’s evaluation.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Aug. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the district conference room.
