Ominous clouds hung in the sky Friday night as Johnny Long stepped up to perform at the 4th annual Flathead Blues Festival on the scenic shore of Flathead Lake.

About halfway through the performance, gusty winds swept through Salish Point and a torrential downpour followed, causing them to postpone until Saturday.

People ran for cover under the various food and merchandise vendor stands, and equipment was secured with tarps.

“I guess that’s what you call intermission,” Mike McReynolds said as he waited out the rain with his wife Cheryl. McReynolds is owner of Polson’s UPS Store, one of many sponsors of the two-day event.

Though the weather was drizzly until noon on Saturday, the performers seemed to enjoy the venue.

People filled up the park as the day went on, some dancing in the grassy area near the stage, others sitting on the hilltop, and many simply enjoying the music from fold up chairs and blankets as the sunny and dry evening wrapped up the Blues Festival on the water.

With some readjustments due to the weather, seven blues bands performed Saturday throughout a 12-hour time period, wrapping up the night with the Randy Oxford Band.

The event is made possible by the support of a vast amount of sponsors, food and beverage vendors, generous benefactors, and the help of nearly 300 volunteers.
