‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

POLSON — This month’s Resource Roundtable will be SAFE Harbor’s Annual Honoring Ceremony for community members who have stepped forth to help break the cycle of violence. As part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, SAFE Harbor takes nominees from the community for “hometown heroes” who went beyond the call of duty in the last year. Join us for lunch and to recognize some wonderful citizens on Oct. 18 at noon in the Lake County Health Department Conference Room. POLSON – The Montecahto Club’s ladies are having a Holiday/Christmas Sale at their historic east shore clubhouse on Friday, Oct. 20, and Saturday, Oct. 21, from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. The non-profit club will sell high quality, lightly used Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas items. They’ll also be serving soup. Come check it out and get in the holiday mood. POLSON — North Lake County Public Library, 2 First Ave. E, will host a free technology class on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. in the library meeting room. Specialist Heather Miles will present a session called “Absolute Computer Basics: Software.” The class will answer such questions as: What is software? How do you download and upload? Democracy Rises discusses healthcare

Mission Valley Rises: Democracy Engaged is a group that works on the principle that our communities are stronger than politics. Watch movie shot in Montana at MOAM

POLSON — Miracle of America shows historic movies on their free “Night at the Museum” program. On Thursday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m. “Timberjack,” a feature-length movie filmed in 1955 in Glacier National Park will be shown. Set in Montana in the late 1880s, two logging operators compete for survival. The Truecolor movie stars Sterling Hayden, Vera Ralston, and David Brian. Adolphe Menjou, Hoagy Carmichael and Chill Wills make character appearances. A portion of this movie was shot in Polson and is evident as you watch this action packed thriller. The public is welcome. LWML rally planned

POLSON — The North Lake County Public Library invites all to our very own International Observe the Moon Night event on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m. We will have a brief, family-friendly presentation followed by several handson activities and the chance to take a peek at the moon through a telescope. This event has been made possible by the North Lake County Public Library’s NASA@ MyLibrary grant, the generosity of our local residents, and a little elbow grease. Marines celebrate 242nd birthday

POLSON — The Marine Corps’ 242nd Birthday Celebration with a silent auction will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Polson VFW Post upstairs. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will go to the Hellroaring Detachment Scholarship Program. The evening begins with a no-host social hour at 6 p.m., a cake-cutting ceremony at 6:30 p.m., introductions at 6:45 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. This event is open to families and the public. The Award Ceremony and results of the silent auction will start at 8 p.m. This year’s dinner menu features a buffet consisting of prime rib and stuffed pork chop with all the trimmings. Open gym event supports Close Up Program

POLSON — An open gym will be held at Head Over Heels, 101 Whitewater Place, Suite B, to help students raise money for a trip to Washington D.C. and NYC. All proceeds raised go to the Ronan High School students within the Close Up Program. The event takes place on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m.-noon. The cost is $10 per person for non-members, $8 per person for members and parents are free with their paying children.

Art, singing event supports food pantries, SKC scholarships

POLSON — The Totally Terrific and Truly Timely - Voice and Visual Spectacular will take place Nov. 18 at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. This event is co-sponsored by SAFE Harbor and the SKC Spirit of Many Colors Club as a night of optimism and hope, focused on promoting a strong sense of community for all people. During the evening, art stations will be set up and participants will get to take home their artwork. A vocal talent contest will provide entertainment. There will be audience prizes and karaoke will conclude the night. Tickets are $10 per person or $100 for a VIP table, which has seating for eight and includes a “swag bag” for the group.
