Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Horsemen stay home for April

RONAN — Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will not be holding their next monthly meeting in April due to the Covid-19 and CDC guidelines for social distancing and gatherings. Stay at home unless absolutely necessary and be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Stay safe.

Library begins monthly movie night

POLSON — Enjoy “Friday Night at the Library” on the fourth Friday of each month. North Lake County Library will show movies rated PG or PG-13 ( posted on our website) and make fresh popcorn. This program debuts Friday, Jan. 25. Be in the library before 6 p.m. to be included. Feel free to bring your own nonalcoholic beverage and snacks.

Spring Mack Days event postponed News from CSKT

FLATHEAD LAKE — Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Spring Mack Days event has been postponed until further notice. This decision was made by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council in support of Governor Steve Bullock’s stay-at-home order. The governor’s order went into effect on Saturday, March 28. The CSKT Tribal Fisheries Program and CSKT’s Tribal Council will evaluate the situation by April 10 when the governor could lift the order. Anglers who have signed up for the program are asked to check their emails frequently. For further information and updates, please visit the Mack Days website at

Celebrate Recovery ministers to anyone

POLSON — Celebrate Recovery Ministry takes place at Polson Foursquare on Sundays between 5-8 p.m.

All are welcome to join us each Sunday evening. CR is a Christ-centered 12-step recovery ministry for anyone with hurts, habits or hang-ups. Discussion forum meets last Thursday of month

POLSON — Join our ongoing “last Thursday of the month” meetings held from 4-5 p.m. (or beyond) at The Good Coffee Roasting Company, 201 Third Ave., right behind Stutzman’s Furniture on U.S. Highway 93. “Polson Gather Round - Walk With the World” is a community discussion forum, where we discuss what is on our minds. We also discuss possible solutions, and specifically how they are related to climate change solutions. Thinking must be elevated past the political parties, and solutions should be fostered by community collaboration, as it relates specifically to the climate topic.  Montecahto Club invites new members

 POLSON — The Montecahto Club meets the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. We are a social and service organization and sponsor a scholarship for a graduating senior, cook and serve lunch at “Soup’s On,” collect for the Food Bank, send Care packages to the overseas troops and help out wherever we can. Recovery support available

RONAN —Recovery support is available for those struggling with addiction at The Never Alone Recovery Hall (Hwy. 93, old Boys and Girls Club), every day of the week. The Never Alone Recovery Hall is a peer support dropin center. We are simply recovering people offering our experience, strength, and hope to our community members who are struggling with addiction issues. All groups and services are free. Please feel welcome to drop in and check us out.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays a noon meditation group is held and from 1-5 p.m. individual peer support is available.

Mondays a women’s support group takes place from 6-8 p.m.

Tuesdays there are recovery stories and videos heard from 6-8 p.m.

Wednesdays Narcotics Anonymous meets from 6-8 p.m.

Thursdays an early recovery skills groups meets from 6-8 p.m.

Fridays from 8-9 p.m. The Red Road to Recovery group meets.

Saturdays a co-dependent support group meets at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. special events take place (events change).

Family movie night happens from 6-8 p.m. on Sundays.

Library offers book bargains

POLSON — Friday, Nov. 1, and Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. the North Lake County Public Library’s Friends of the Library will hold a used book sale. Come in to the large meeting room of the library. There will be books of every genre, bargains galore. Fill a bag for $5 or buy the Friends of the Library canvas book bag for $15 and fill it up for free. All proceeds benefit the library’s many programs and projects.

Shop, enjoy lunch at church bazaar


POLSON — An annual fall bazaar and luncheon is being held at the First United Methodist Church, 301 Sixteenth Ave. E, on Friday, Nov. 1. Art, homemade crafts and bake goods will be sold from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be soup, sandwiches and an apple dumpling with ice cream served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Proceeds are used for local and church-wide Mission Outreach.

Group holds free benefit dinner for veterans, Goldstar families


POLSON — Welcome Home Inc. is a new non-profit organization in Polson. They are planning a casual attire benefit dinner to honor local veterans on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 5-7 p.m. at the Red Lion Inn. They are planning on between 100-120 people attending this free event. There will be guest speakers from Sen. Tester's office and Sen. Daines’ office as well as local veterans sharing their stories. Some of our board members will introduce the services we offer free to veterans, gold star members and their families. Our services include a wide range of services from educational, medical and financial to emotional and recreational therapy. Jam at the Elks


POLSON — Classic Country Jammin’ will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3, in the Elks ballroom, on Main Street from 2– 5 p.m. This event will continue to be held on the first Sunday every month. Bring your guitar, banjo, mandolin, auto-harp, fiddle, drum, bass, sax, keyboard, etc., and join us for a few hours of fun. If playing you must bring your own equipment and it’s recommended you bring your own amp. You may also play acoustic. Everyone is welcome to play, sing, dance or just listen. POLSON — Join us for the community dance at the Elks on Main Street on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 7-10 p.m. in the ballroom. Music is by Ken’s Country Combo playing a variety of classic country and vintage rock and roll. Snacks provided during break at 8:30 p.m. Elk membership is not required. Cover charge is $5. Zen meditation class offered

Discover secrets to winning novels


POLSON — On Saturday, Nov. 9, from 1-2:30 p.m. at the North Lake County Library, Gwen Florio of Humanities Montana will present “Five Steps to a Winning Novel.” In judging contests, such as the 2019 Edgar Awards, novelist Gwen Florio read hundreds of books, a process that revealed some very specific things that made a few novels shoot to the top of the list, while other, perfectly well-written books, faded in comparison. This workshop will focus on those key qualities, with specific examples, and advice and techniques on achieving them. Gwen is an award-winning journalist and author. She is the news editor of the Missoulian.

Free play uplifts, tickles funny-bone


POLSON/PABLO — “Every Brilliant Thing” is a moving story that is so timely and important. This is a free production that runs for approximately 60-70 minutes. The first performance will be held at the Port Polson Theater at 2 p.m. The second performance will take place at the SKC Arlee/Charlo Theater at 7 p.m. This play is a tribute to the irrepressible resilience inside all of us and the capacity to find delight in the everyday. “Every Brilliant Thing” is a funny, clever, and surprisingly uplifting play about the lengths we go to for those we love.

Listen to presentation on birding


POLSON — “Birding - Bolivia and Chile” by local bird expert Josh Covill will be Mission Mountain Audubon’s educational program on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in the North Lake County Public Library's meeting room. Covill and his wife spent five months in South America exploring their passion for birds. Everyone is welcome.
