2019 Farmers Markets

Lake County vendors invited to Bigfork through Oct. 9

BIGFORK — The Bigfork Farmers’ Market Cooperative will take place each Wednesday until October 9. The market takes place between 3-6 p.m. on the lawn at The Bigfork VFW, 8098 Highway 35. Ronan Farmers Market through September 26

RONAN — The 2019 Ronan Farmers Market will open on Thursday, May 16, at the Ronan Visitors’ Center. Hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursdays throughout the spring and summer until Sept. 26 (except for July 4). For more information, call 406-676-5901 or go to cryse. heiner@lakecountycdc.org. They are seeking produce and prepared food vendors. The Ronan Farmers Market offers fresh produce, cheeses, eggs, baked goods, prepared foods, and crafts from the Mission Valley.

Shop local at Polson's farmers market through Sept. 

POLSON — Starting on Friday, May 3, Polson Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Friday, rain or shine. The market is located at Third Ave. W. and will have homegrown produce and plants, coffee, jewelry, soaps, popsicles, baked goods, meats, eggs, cheese, preserved foods, fabric, photographic and handmade art, beauty products, wood working and much, much more. Class offers help for caregivers through June 7

POLSON — Are you caring for a loved one? Providence St. Joseph Medical Center is hosting the Area VI Agency on Aging’s six-week series of classes designed to help caregivers with the many physical and emotional challenges they face. Library begins monthly movie night

POLSON — Enjoy “Friday Night at the Library” on the fourth Friday of each month. North Lake County Library will show movies rated PG or PG-13 ( posted on our website) and make fresh popcorn. This program debuts Friday, Jan. 25. Be in the library before 6 p.m. to be included. Feel free to bring your own nonalcoholic beverage and snacks.

Men’s Friday afternoon cancer club through May 24

POLSON — If you are a man with any cancer diagnosis this group is for you. Join others for six meetings to discuss the issues men with cancer are facing Friday afternoons from 5:15-6:30 p.m. at the Bickford Building (upstairs). This group is free of charge. Coy Theobalt has been facilitating groups for men with cancer for more than 18 years. Call 406-578- 8078 to reserve a seat.

Move for better balance

RONAN — Tai Ji Quan is a moving-for-better-balance class and will be offered by a certified instructor at the MSU Lake County Extension on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. beginning May 13. This is an alternative exercise training program for improving balance and preventing falls. There is no cost. Please wear good shoes and clothes you can move in and bring water. Move for better balance through June

POLSON — The spring session of “Moving for Better Balance,” an adapted Tai Chi program, will begin on Tuesday, April 9. It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11 a.m. at the Polson Senior Center. The class will run until the end of June. Call Jane at the Agency on Aging to sign up 406-883-7284.

New exhibit begins at Sandpiper Art Gallery through June 14

POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery, 306 Main Street, Polson, presents until June 14, “As I Was Wandering.” This exhibit will be everything we love about Montanans and the Montana experience. This show will feature past and present member artists; Sue Arneson (Montana Watercolor Artist), Carolyn Ekland-Olson (World Wide Photography), Karla Martinson (3D Paintings & Publisher), Mary Kelley (Plein Aire and the Old Masters in Oil), Judith Wright (Mixed Media). Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Recovery support available

RONAN —Recovery support is available for those struggling with addiction at The Never Alone Recovery Hall (Hwy. 93, old Boys and Girls Club), every day of the week. The Never Alone Recovery Hall is a peer support dropin center. We are simply recovering people offering our experience, strength, and hope to our community members who are struggling with addiction issues. All groups and services are free. Please feel welcome to drop in and check us out.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays a noon meditation group is held and from 1-5 p.m. individual peer support is available.

Mondays a women’s support group takes place from 6-8 p.m.

Tuesdays there are recovery stories and videos heard from 6-8 p.m.

Wednesdays Narcotics Anonymous meets from 6-8 p.m.

Thursdays an early recovery skills groups meets from 6-8 p.m.

Fridays from 8-9 p.m. The Red Road to Recovery group meets.

Saturdays a co-dependent support group meets at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. special events take place (events change).

Family movie night happens from 6-8 p.m. on Sundays.

Decker to speak to Republican committee

POLSON — The Lake County Republican Central committee is co-hosting a Get to Know Your Candidates series with the Lake County Pachyderms. On Friday, Sept. 14, from noon-1 p.m., Gale Decker will speak as a candidate for Lake County commissioner. Please come out to meet him and to ask any questions. The meeting takes place at the Polson Rural Fire Department.

Science Activity Fair held

POLSON — A Science Activity Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11a.m.-3 p.m at the North Lake County Public Library. The library’s amateur astronomy club is partnering with the Coalition for Public Understanding of Science, or COPUS, which brings together brilliant scientists and organizations dedicated to science from around the globe. This year they’re throwing a science fair at the library and will give you the chance to interact with internationally acclaimed scientists and experts as well as catch up on developments closer to home, such as the work being done through SciNation on the Flathead Reservation and the library’s NASA @ My Library grant. This event will feature a variety of hands-on displays and activities, as well as freebies and swag while supplies last. Want your picture taken on the surface of the Moon? Want to meet the library’s newest telescope, thanks to the Space Science Institute and other N@ML partners? Join us.

Watch Lake County High School Rodeo

POLSON — Lake County High School Rodeo will be held at Polson Fairgrounds Saturday, Sept. 15, starting at 9:30 a.m. Two rodeos will be run that day. Watch as the girls and boys participate in a wide range of rodeo activities: barrels, saddle broncs, goat tying, and breakaway and possibly there will be sports shooting. Spend an evening with the Constitution

POLSON — You are invited to a free program at the Miracle of America Museum on Constitution Day, Monday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in the evening. A short tour of Constitution-related exhibits will be given and free pocket constitutions will be available. This will be followed by an entertaining, yet profound feature length 2017 movie, “In Search of Liberty,” in which, a man from the past shows a typical American family using wit, magic, and logic, how our Constitution is under attack and what can be done to save it. POLSON — Please join us for the Community Dance in the ballroom at the Elks on Main Street on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 7-10 p.m. Music is by Ken’s Country Combo playing a variety of vintage country and rock and roll tunes. Snacks during the break at 8:30 p.m. include cocktails and soft drinks for purchase in the bar. Fountain water is also available. On this night we will celebrate individuals who have had or will be having birthdays with a special cake provided. Everyone is welcome. No Elks membership is required. Hear about Mission Valley Has Talent Contest

POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Tuesday each month at the KwaTaq-Nuk Resort downstairs in the Koostatah room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker on September 20 will be Tillie Marshall who will talk about Helping Hands and the Mission Valley Has Talent contest. The MVHT is a fundraiser for Helping Hands that raised more than $6,000 this year for the fund, a nonprofit ministry supported by the Mission Valley Ministerial Association. For the 2019 MVHT they are seeking people of talent of all types between the ages of 5 to 95. In 2019 there will be age categories for the performers.

POLSON — The “Lady Long Rider” author event will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the North Lake County Public Library. Bernice Ende, Lady Long Rider, is a Montana teacher who decided to spend her retirement traveling across the United States on horseback. She will be giving a slide show presentation about her adventures, then signing her new book “Lady Long Rider - Alone Across America on Horseback.” Join us for an unforgettable evening. This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

View rare seashells, coral at MOAM

POLSON — Remember this coming Thursday, Sept. 27, is our fourth Thursday of the month and the free “Night at the Museum,” held at 6:30 p.m. at the Miracle of America Museum, in Polson. This program will start with viewing a recently donated rare seashell and coral collection of over 300 pieces. These were collected by a naval officer who served as chaplain aboard the USS Missouri and the USS New Jersey as he cruised around the world. Time permitting, we may show the documentary, “Smoke on the Waters,” the history of steam boating on Flathead Lake. Treats and donations are always welcome.
