Hear about Mission Valley Has Talent Contest
POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Tuesday each month at the KwaTaq-Nuk Resort downstairs in the Koostatah room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker on September 20 will be Tillie Marshall who will talk about Helping Hands and the Mission Valley Has Talent contest. The MVHT is a fundraiser for Helping Hands that raised more than $6,000 this year for the fund, a nonprofit ministry supported by the Mission Valley Ministerial Association. For the 2019 MVHT they are seeking people of talent of all types between the ages of 5 to 95. In 2019 there will be age categories for the performers.

Listen to ‘Lady Long Rider’ adventures
POLSON — The “Lady Long Rider” author event will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the North Lake County Public Library. Bernice Ende, Lady Long Rider, is a Montana teacher who decided to spend her retirement traveling across the United States on horseback. She will be giving a slide show presentation about her adventures, then signing her new book “Lady Long Rider - Alone Across America on Horseback.” Join us for an unforgettable evening. This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

View rare seashells, coral at MOAM
POLSON — Remember this coming Thursday, Sept. 27, is our fourth Thursday of the month and the free “Night at the Museum,” held at 6:30 p.m. at the Miracle of America Museum, in Polson. This program will start with viewing a recently donated rare seashell and coral collection of over 300 pieces. These were collected by a naval officer who served as chaplain aboard the USS Missouri and the USS New Jersey as he cruised around the world. Time permitting, we may show the documentary, “Smoke on the Waters,” the history of steam boating on Flathead Lake. Treats and donations are always welcome. Republicans host ‘Get to Know Your Candidate Series’
POLSON — The Lake County Republican Central Committee will host the next “Get to Know Your Candidate Series” with speaker Kim Christopher. She has served as district judge for 18 years and will share her goals in running again as district judge for Lake and Sanders counties. All are invited to hear the judge speak on Sept. 28 from noon-1 p.m. at Rural Polson Fire Depart. off Regatta Road.

Polson Shooters Association offers ‘Free Shoot Day’
POLSON — The Polson Shooters Association is holding their annual open house and public “Free Shoot Day” on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Join us to check out the range with the newly completed electric gate, to sight-in your rifle for elk/ deer season and for a free lunch of hot dogs and soft drinks. Bring a friend, a neighbor or a family member. Sign up or renew your membership for another year. Dues received now will subscribe or renew you through all of 2019. Dance at Elks Club in Polson
POLSON — Please join us for the community dance in the ballroom at the Elks Club on Main Street on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 7-10 p.m. We provide snacks during the 8:30 p.m. break. The music is provided by Ken’s Country Combo and plays a variety of vintage country and rock and roll tunes. Everyone is welcome. An Elks membership is not required. The cover charge is $5. Library invites fantasy author to speak
POLSON — The first National Endowment for the Arts’ ‘Big Read’ event takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m. at the North Lake County Library. Come meet Jess E. Owen, a Montana writer of “The Summer King Chronicles” fantasy series. She will discuss the influence of fantasy writing and the works of Ursula Le Guin on her authorship.
Zen meditation class offered
POLSON — An introductory Zen meditation class is being offered at the YogaHeart Studio, 314 Main Street, on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. The class will be presented by Zen Priest Zenku, Jerry Smyers. There is no charge for the class. Everyone is welcome. For more details call 847-721-0665.
