POLSON — In preparation for this important election year we welcome all Republican and conservative volunteers to the Lake County Republican Central Committee on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to prepare for voter drives, headquarters development and building our team for the 2018 election year. We encourage people to step forward in having a voice to shape your future. Please tell your friends and family who care about America to get involved and make a difference. The meeting will take place at the Polson Rural Fire Department.

POLSON — A free Zen Meditation class offered at the Yoga- Heart Studio, 314 Main Street, on Wednesdays in September will take place on Sept. 5, 12 and 19 at 6 p.m. The classes will be presented by Zen Priest Zenku, Jerry Smyers. POLSON — The Polson Chamber of Commerce general meeting and luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the KwaTaqNuk Resort from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker is Rex Weltz on the state of the school district. For more information, call the Chamber office at 406-883-5969.

POLSON — Dance at the Elks' Ballroom, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 7-10 p.m. to the Ken’s Country Combo Band. They play a variety of vintage country and rock and roll (pop) tunes that you can vary your dancing to a waltz, one- or two-step, cha-cha, etc. Dress is casual. The valley showed they have an interest in old country/rock and roll, etc., type music by the attendance at Cowboy Country and The Gold Dust Girls dance, held at the Elks a few weeks ago. So, if you want a place to dance, please come and join us on the first and third Wednesday of each month. We provide snacks at 8:30 p.m. during the break. The cover charge is $5 and drinks, soft drinks and water are available for purchase in the bar.

POLSON — Democrats are invited to Boettcher Park for a picnic/potluck on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5:30 p.m. (If it’s not too smoky.) Ham, turkey, wine, lemonade and water will be provided. You are asked to supply side dishes and desserts. BYOB, chairs and smiles. No glassware please. JIMnI will provide music and candidates Susan Evans, HD 12; Eldena Bear Don’t Walk, HD 93; and Caroline McDonald, Lake County Commissioner; will speak. A wine basket will be raffled. Please give generously to all the candidates when the “giving basket” comes around. It helps their campaigns. We need democrats to win in November. POLSON — Mission Valley Life kicks off their 2018-19 season with a fundraising concert featuring renowned violin virtuoso Wai Mizutani and friends. The event begins at 7 p.m. at New Life Church, 1414 Second Street W. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $15. A reception with refreshments will be held prior to the concert beginning at 6 p.m.

POLSON — The Mission Valley Animal Shelter’s second annual Puppy Party is being held Friday, Sept. 7, at the Red Lion Inn from 6-10 p.m. Finley Point Grill is catering the event. This largest annual fundraiser for MVAS is to raise funds for improvements to the shelter so that it can continue to fulfill its mission to “Save More Lives.” There will be over 100 silent auction items as well as 15-20 live auction items that include a Jamaica vacation, a Whitefish ski package, a handmade cedar kayak, an auto services package, a 14-foot tipi, a Glacier National Park package, valuable art, scenic flights and much, much more. Only 200 tickets are available for the dinner so if you don’t have yours yet, call the shelter at 406-883-5312 to get one ... or two.

POLSON — The 20th annual Polson Fly-In takes place at the Polson Airport all day.

POLSON — The Republican Leadership Institute is traveling around Montana teaching people on the ground to master cutting edge campaign technology, leadership and volunteer networking skills. We won great victories in 2016, but Making America Great Again has just begun. We are building teams across Montana. POLSON — The Mother Goose reading program offered by North Lake County Library remains on Mondays but now begins at 10:30 a.m. Please take note of this new time. The half-hour program is for toddlers (ages 0-3) and their caregivers any Monday the library is open. There are always nursery rhymes and stories galore. The library will be celebrating the Great American Read/PBS program during September and invites you to check out one of the 100 books America will be talking about.

POLSON — The Lake County Republican Women will return from a summer break for their first meeting on Sept. 10, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Polson Rural Fire Department. Women are invited to enjoy social time and the energy of like-minded women looking to influence their world and community for the better.

POLSON — The Lake County Republican Central committee is co-hosting a Get to Know Your Candidates series with the Lake County Pachyderms. On Friday, Sept. 14, from noon-1 p.m., Gale Decker will speak as a candidate for Lake County commissioner. Please come out to meet him and to ask any questions. The meeting takes place at the Polson Rural Fire Department.

POLSON — Polson High School’s class of 1968 is having their 50th class reunion in September and would like to invite other classmates and former teachers to join them at their “meet and greet” event on Friday, Sept. 14, at the Polson Senior Citizens’ Center, 504 Third Ave. E, from 4-7 p.m.

POLSON — A Science Activity Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11a.m.-3 p.m at the North Lake County Public Library. The library’s amateur astronomy club is partnering with the Coalition for Public Understanding of Science, or COPUS, which brings together brilliant scientists and organizations dedicated to science from around the globe. This year they’re throwing a science fair at the library and will give you the chance to interact with internationally acclaimed scientists and experts as well as catch up on developments closer to home, such as the work being done through SciNation on the Flathead Reservation and the library’s NASA @ My Library grant. This event will feature a variety of hands-on displays and activities, as well as freebies and swag while supplies last. Want your picture taken on the surface of the Moon? Want to meet the library’s newest telescope, thanks to the Space Science Institute and other N@ML partners? Join us.

POLSON — Lake County High School Rodeo will be held at Polson Fairgrounds Saturday, Sept. 15, starting at 9:30 a.m. Two rodeos will be run that day. Watch as the girls and boys participate in a wide range of rodeo activities: barrels, saddle broncs, goat tying, and breakaway and possibly there will be sports shooting. POLSON — You are invited to a free program at the Miracle of America Museum on Constitution Day, Monday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in the evening. A short tour of Constitution-related exhibits will be given and free pocket constitutions will be available. This will be followed by an entertaining, yet profound feature length 2017 movie, “In Search of Liberty,” in which, a man from the past shows a typical American family using wit, magic, and logic, how our Constitution is under attack and what can be done to save it.
