‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Environmental issues presented at democrats’ meeting

POLSON — Daerf Johnson, staff member for the Environmental Information Center, will present an overview of several major environmental issues currently facing Montana citizens, including the Keystone Pipeline, Otter Creek coal development (which has the potential of becoming the largest coal mine in the United States), and the expansion of other mining operations in Southeast Montana. His presentation, followed by a question and answer period, is being sponsored by the Lake County Democrats and will be held in conjunction with the monthly meeting at the Polson Senior Citizens Center, 504 Third Ave., Wednesday, June 19, from 7-9 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Polson Heart and Soul gathers neighbors again

POLSON — Polson Heart and Soul continues its neighborhood gatherings Thursday, June 20, from 6-8:30 p.m. People of all ages are welcome to attend, with special emphasis for those living around the Turtle Lake neighborhood. Fun, good conversation and a free dinner are planned and babysitting services are available. 

The neighborhood gathering will take place on the second floor of Total Screen Design located at 40735 Highway 35, Polson. 

Polson Heart and Soul project is holding approximately 20 of these gatherings to find out what you think about Polson. Folks are invited to engage in a friendly conversation with your neighbors, ultimately to help develop a stronger, healthier Polson while preserving the best. You are invited to let your views be heard and to listen to what others have to say on a variety of topics. 

The schedule of activities includes dinner from 6-6:30 p.m.; small group conversations within groups of three, 6:30-7:30; and sharing with discussion led by Polson Heart and Soul staff from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Come join your neighbors and visit about the future of Polson.

Second volume of Lake County School history to be presented

POLSON — The long-awaited book, “Lake County School History Volume II,” subtitled, “Once in Flathead County: Many Districts Become One,” will be presented on the third floor of the Lake County Courthouse in the large conference room on June 20, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Author Joyce Decker Wegner, several co-authors, including Glenn Timm, will be on-hand. The general public may purchase books at this time and enjoy a cup of coffee and cookies.

The 608 pages book has hundreds of pictures and stories and sells for $29.95. Pre-paid orders may be picked up. Volume I, “Once in Missoula County: One Large District Becomes Many,” will also be available for purchase.

RONAN — On June 21, 2013, the Ronan Area Chamber of Commerce will present “Crab Fest 2013,” which is a benefit for the Bockman (Ronan City) Parks. The dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and has been moved to the horticulture barn at the fairgrounds. Tickets are $25 per person and $10 for children 10 years of age and under.

Firefighter hamburger fry planned for June 22

BIG ARM — Firefighters will be manning a hamburger barbecue on June 22 at the Big Arm Fire Station.

The hamburger fry runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and is put on by the Polson City and Rural Fire Departments at the Big Arm Station. The public is invited to visit with local firefighters and check out all of the equipment used to keep local residents safe. 

The fire engine, the fire tender and the brush truck, along with tools and equipment, will be on display for folks to sit in, learn about and enjoy. The firefighters promise to blast water out of the hoses and may even have some hose races (blasting beach balls with water), depending on the weather.

The barbecue is free, but donations to the department are always welcome.

Firemen serve up picnic, auction, raffle

ST. IGNATIUS — Join the St. Ignatius Volunteer Fire Department’s 19th annual “Fireman’s Picnic” on June 22 at the Old Town Field (across from Cenex). POLSON — The Veterans’ Honor Guard will hold a fundraising dinner and silent auction on Saturday, June 22, at the Elks Lodge (B.P.O.E) in Polson. POLSON — “Taxes—Now and Near Future; current developments in income taxes and a forecast of upcoming tax changes” will be the topic of guest speaker Walter J. Kero, at the Friday, June 28, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club. Kero is a 1973 graduate of the University of Montana with a degree in Business Administration and a major in accounting.

Expect fun for all at joint open house/garage sale

Help combat child trafficking

Add to library’s collection, adopt a book

POLSON — North Lake County Public Library is offering its annual Adopt-a-Book program, an opportunity to “adopt” a children’s book and present it to the library’s collection. Adopt-a-Book takes place during the month of February, which is designated “I Love to Read Month.”

Community members can purchase a book to honor a special child, friend, relative, or event (Valentine’s Day, birthday, anniversary, etc.), or to remember a loved one. Each hardback book is $13.

The wide variety of colorful new books waiting for adoption is now on display at the library. After a book is purchased, a bookplate will be inscribed and permanently placed in the front of the book. In addition, a special acknowledgement of the sponsored book can be sent to the honoree.

Scrap metal donations sought

VALLEY VIEW — Help save our school with a scrap metal drive. Do you have old appliances in the garage or out back? Old cars in your junk pile? Old copper piping? Radiators? Tire Rims? Wrestling camp open to all students

ST. IGNATIUS — Iron Dog Wrestling Camp, scheduled for July 15- 17 at St. Ignatius High School, has two sessions each day. One from 9 a.m.-noon and another from 1-4 p.m. The camp is open to students k-12, costs $35 and includes a T-shirt and lunches. 

The camp features several former and current college All Americans.

Tennis camp offered in Ronan

RONAN — A free tennis camp for ages six-18, sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Flathead Reservation and Lake County, is Tuesday-Thursday, July 16-19. Session one, for ages six-10 runs from 8-10 a.m. and session two, for ages 11-18, runs from 10 a.m.-noon. Participants may register by calling Mike or Stacey Ellis at (406) 676-3269. Discover the color of humanity

ST. IGNATIUS — The Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition is sponsoring Dr. George Price’s slideshow presentation titled, “From the Earth: the true colors of humanity,” at 6 p.m. on July 17 at Mission Valley United Methodist Church. This is a potluck so bring a dish to share. The slideshow contrasts between many origin stories of indigenous peoples worldwide, exploring where the first people came from and the concept of human races imposed upon us during the 17th and 18th centuries.

ST. IGNATIUS — “Good Old Days in St. Ignatius” is three days of family fun in the Good Old Days Park. This year’s event will be held July 19-21. Friday family night will start with a barbecue dinner, followed by entertainment and fireworks. Saturday will be the Buffalo Run, pancake breakfast, parade, fun and games in the park, lots of special events and food. Sunday, a fly-in at the airport with free airplane rides for children ages 8 to 17.

Class of 1963 plans busy reunion during Good Old Days

ST. IGNATIUS — The Mission class of 1963 will celebrate its fiftieth-year reunion during St. Ignatius Good Old Days, July 19-21. On Friday July 19 we meet at Ron and LaVonne Olmsted’s at 1 p.m. to work on the float. That evening we meet at Good Old Days Park for the Chamber of Commerce barbecue from 5:30-7:30 p.m. On Saturday those who wish may have breakfast from 7 a.m.-noon at St. Ignatius Senior Citizens' Center and then meet at the school for the parade, ride on the float and have lunch at the park. We meet at the quad on the south side of the high school at 2 p.m. to tour the school. Any other classes that are meeting are welcome to join us. After 3 p.m. we gather at the Olmsted’s for visiting and a picnic catered by the Amish.

Kootenai Tribe welcomes all nations, public
