‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

Waterfowl Wednesdays’ through Oct. 30

SOMERS — Join Jake Bramante from the Flathead Audubon Society for “Waterfowl Wednesdays” from 4-5:30 p.m. through the month of October. You will learn how to identify various waterfowl in our area. The group will meet at the Park and Ride at the corner of U.S. Highway 93 and U.S. Highway 82 every Wednesday from 4-5:30 p.m. through the month of October (weather permitting). The Park and Ride is located right next to the split pond near Somers and allows for easy watching of waterfowl. Bring your binoculars and/or a spotting scope if you have one. Mission Valley Live presents dance group

RONAN — Mission Valley Live 2019-20 Concert Series brings the Utah Repertory Dance Theater to the Ronan Performing Arts Center on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. URDT is a modern dance group that performs a diverse range of modern dance styles and choreography described as art in motion – graceful and athletic, beautiful and powerful. Advance tickets are available for $13 each in Ronan at R&R Health Care Solutions or Ronan True Value and in Polson at First Interstate Bank or Perfect Shot Tavern. Tickets at the door are $15, $5 for college students with I.D. and as always youth 18 years and younger are free. You can also purchase four tickets for $45.

Oktoberfest event to be held at Polson Fairgrounds

POLSON – The Polson Business Community (PBC) and Polson Chamber of Commerce (PCC) are partnering to host the first official Polson Oktoberfest from Noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Polson Fairgrounds. The event will feature a DJ and live music, and will offer a variety of contests and games. Games will include a beer stein-holding, keg-tossing contests, and a beer drinking competition. Prizes will also be awarded for Best Mr. and Ms. Oktoberfest-themed Costume. Costume contest winners will be decided by popular vote during the event, with prizes going to the costumes that best demonstrate the true spirit of Oktoberfest. Additionally, Oktoberfest planners are working to organize a public trolley that will shuttle people between the Polson Fairgrounds and select locations around town throughout the event. Tickets for the 2019 Polson Oktoberfest can be purchased for $5 at select PBC and PCC businesses. Visit the Polson Oktoberfest Facebook Page for more information at http://bit.ly/PolsonOktoberfest. Vendors are being sought to participate in the event. Non-food vendors will have the opportunity to be open from noon until 6 p.m., while food vendors will have the option to stay open throughout the entirety of the event. The 2019 Polson Oktoberfest is a 21 and older only event. Tickets and valid ID are required for entry. POLSON — Please join us for a Halloween Dance at the Elks on Main St. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 7-10 p.m. The event will take place in the Elks’ ballroom with music provided by Ken’s Country Combo playing a variety of country and vintage rock and roll. This is also our birthday dance where we celebrate this months’ birthday people with a special cake. You are encouraged to wear Halloween attire/costumes and there will be a prize for best female and male costumes. Costumes are not required. Snacks are provided during break at 8:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. No Elks membership is required. The cover charge is $5.

Learn about e-cigarette use

POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis will meet on Thursday, Oct. 17, at the KwaTakNuk Resort downstairs in the Koostahtah room from noon-1 p.m. Join us to hear our guest speaker, Keryl Lozar, from Lake County Public Health. She will give a brief history of the tobacco settlement and how our state prevention program is set up. Keryl will update us on e-cigarette use, its advertising and the serious health risks it can cause. The public is welcome.

POLSON — The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold its 49th annual Harvest Dinner of Swedish meatballs, potatoes, gravy, homemade lefse, salad and dessert from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, in the church fellowship hall.
