Lake County vendors invited to Bigfork through Oct. 9

BIGFORK — The Bigfork Farmers’ Market Cooperative will take place each Wednesday until October 9. The market takes place between 3-6 p.m. on the lawn at The Bigfork VFW, 8098 Highway 35. Ronan Farmers Market through September 26

RONAN — The 2019 Ronan Farmers Market will open on Thursday, May 16, at the Ronan Visitors’ Center. Hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursdays throughout the spring and summer until Sept. 26 (except for July 4). For more information, call 406-676-5901 or go to cryse. heiner@lakecountycdc.org. They are seeking produce and prepared food vendors. The Ronan Farmers Market offers fresh produce, cheeses, eggs, baked goods, prepared foods, and crafts from the Mission Valley.

Shop local at Polson's farmers market through Sept. 

POLSON — Starting on Friday, May 3, Polson Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Friday, rain or shine. The market is located at Third Ave. W. and will have homegrown produce and plants, coffee, jewelry, soaps, popsicles, baked goods, meats, eggs, cheese, preserved foods, fabric, photographic and handmade art, beauty products, wood working and much, much more. Class offers help for caregivers through June 7

POLSON — Are you caring for a loved one? Providence St. Joseph Medical Center is hosting the Area VI Agency on Aging’s six-week series of classes designed to help caregivers with the many physical and emotional challenges they face. Library begins monthly movie night

POLSON — Enjoy “Friday Night at the Library” on the fourth Friday of each month. North Lake County Library will show movies rated PG or PG-13 ( posted on our website) and make fresh popcorn. This program debuts Friday, Jan. 25. Be in the library before 6 p.m. to be included. Feel free to bring your own nonalcoholic beverage and snacks.

Move for better balance

RONAN — Tai Ji Quan is a moving-for-better-balance class and will be offered by a certified instructor at the MSU Lake County Extension on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. beginning May 13. This is an alternative exercise training program for improving balance and preventing falls. There is no cost. Please wear good shoes and clothes you can move in and bring water. Move for better balance through June

POLSON — The spring session of “Moving for Better Balance,” an adapted Tai Chi program, will begin on Tuesday, April 9. It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11 a.m. at the Polson Senior Center. The class will run until the end of June. Call Jane at the Agency on Aging to sign up 406-883-7284.

New exhibit begins at Sandpiper Art Gallery through June 14

POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery, 306 Main Street, Polson, presents until June 14, “As I Was Wandering.” This exhibit will be everything we love about Montanans and the Montana experience. This show will feature past and present member artists; Sue Arneson (Montana Watercolor Artist), Carolyn Ekland-Olson (World Wide Photography), Karla Martinson (3D Paintings & Publisher), Mary Kelley (Plein Aire and the Old Masters in Oil), Judith Wright (Mixed Media). Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Recovery support available

RONAN —Recovery support is available for those struggling with addiction at The Never Alone Recovery Hall (Hwy. 93, old Boys and Girls Club), every day of the week. The Never Alone Recovery Hall is a peer support dropin center. We are simply recovering people offering our experience, strength, and hope to our community members who are struggling with addiction issues. All groups and services are free. Please feel welcome to drop in and check us out.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays a noon meditation group is held and from 1-5 p.m. individual peer support is available.

Mondays a women’s support group takes place from 6-8 p.m.

Tuesdays there are recovery stories and videos heard from 6-8 p.m.

Wednesdays Narcotics Anonymous meets from 6-8 p.m.

Thursdays an early recovery skills groups meets from 6-8 p.m.

Fridays from 8-9 p.m. The Red Road to Recovery group meets.

Saturdays a co-dependent support group meets at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. special events take place (events change).

Family movie night happens from 6-8 p.m. on Sundays.

Dance to Ken’s Country Combo

Join mussel walk, shoreline cleanup

POLSON — Join the CSKT Mussel Walk with local middle school students and community members and help us protect our water from aquatic invasive species on May 3 at Salish Point from 9-11 a.m. Rotate between four interactive information stations: mussel identification, a mussel-dog demonstration, aquatic invasive species life cycle questions and answers, and a mussel walk/shoreline cleanup. This is a joint effort of CSKT, UM Flathead Lake Bio Station, and the Flathead Lakers.

Psychic Dynasty performs

Join Fort Connah’s annual Spring Rendezvous

ST. IGNATIUS — Fort Connah’s annual “Spring Rendezvous” takes place on the weekend of May 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The open house is free to public and kid friendly. Bring the whole family and enjoy two days of learning history, live demonstrations, activities and the trading post. There will be atlatl, a long bow archery, wool processing, fry-bread, a chuckwagon, and a black powder shoot. Fort Connah is located 6 miles north of St. Ignatius on Highway 93 mile at marker 39. It was the first building in Montana and was part of the Hudson Bay trading post at one time.

VV Women’s Club organizes annual sale

Annual Steak Ride begins in Dayton

DAYTON — Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will have their 38th annual Steak Ride on Sunday, May 5, at the Mueli Ranch. Ride gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 11 a.m. sharp. The ride averages three hours; you set your own pace. We will have a new ride route this year. Steaks will be served from 3-3:30 p.m. only. Bring your gear as we ride rain or shine. Horse shoes are recommended. Saturday night campers are welcome but there are no electric fences allowed and weed-seed-free hay only. The potluck Saturday night begins at 6 p.m. A continental breakfast takes place Sunday morning. There will be 50/50 tickets and door prizes and there are only 150 tickets available so reserve your spot early as last year we sold out. Northwest Accordion Association holds dance

POLSON — The Northwest Accordion Association will hold a community dance May 5 from 2-5 p.m. in the Elks ballroom. There’s more than accordion music; a variety of music is played for you to listen to or dance to. You do not have to be a member of the Elks or the Accordion Association to attend, sing or play. Remember, if you sing or play you don’t pay. Admission is $2 for members, $3 for non-members, and $5 to become a member of the association. Everyone is welcome. View movie about life at Whiskey Trail Ranch

RONAN — The movie, “A Montana Legacy: The Melton Buffalo Ranch 1948-1962,” will be shown on Thursday, May 9, at the Ronan Senior Citizen’s Center, 528 Main SW, following the evening dinner. Dinner is served at 5 p.m. for a cost of $5. The screening is free.

With archival 8-mm silent film and interviews with the three surviving children of Ike and Villa Melton, as well as three cowboys who participated, the film paints a vivid picture of the family and life at the Whiskey Trail Ranch. The three surviving children, Nora Jean Malinak, LaRue Melton, Terry Melton, as well as Larry Christensen, Bud (Stan) Harris, Marlene Melton, Gary Abbey and Laurence Walchuck, reveal details of building corrals, sure footed horses, trucking buffalo and Villa’s National Bison Range experience.

The film was produced by Caribou Crossing, a local media partnership, and co-directed by Frank Tyro and Larry (Joe) Darlington. DVDs of the 56-minute program will be available at the screenings.

Code Girls United holds challenge

KALISPELL — Code Girls United is a non-profit with a mission to help girls become problem solvers through training with computer coding and business skills. We are in our third year of operation and we run a year-round, free, after-school program for girls in fourth to eighth grade. Our most important event is coming up in May. It’s the NW Regional App Challenge on May 11 and 12, at Flathead Valley Community College, Kalispell. This is a free, two-day event for girls in fourth to eighth grade, from all over our region. Republican women talk National politics

Consider Rotary meeting for good conversation

POLSON —The Polson Rotary Club will have its monthly open-social hour at the Perfect Shot on Main Street on Tuesday, May 14, at 5:30 p.m. Anyone interested in Rotary or good conversation is welcome. Rotary’s regular weekly meeting is on Tuesday, at 12:15 p.m., usually at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. The club is considering sponsoring a satellite club that would meet in the mornings or evenings, at least twice a month. A minimum of eight members is needed to meet requirements of Rotary International. Ronan is also being considered as a possibility for a satellite location.
