‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery, 306 Main Street, Polson, presents “Montana West of the Mountains.” This exhibit will be the best images of everything we love about Montana and features member artists Antonia Wolf (photography), Sue Arneson (watercolor), Marie Stockhill (pottery), and guest artists Mike and Belinda Williams (photography) and jeweler Donna Miller. The exhibit continues until June 25. The Gallery is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

POLSON — Monday, June 12, is the first day of the free breakfast and lunch Summer Food Service Program in Polson. Cherry Valley, 107 Eighth Ave. W, is the site for the program. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m.-1:15 p.m., Monday-Friday. All children 18 years old and under eat for free. Lunches are available for adults for a fee. All kids can come enjoy food in a safe, fun, healthy environment. The program ends on Friday, Aug. 4.

Fitness for kids’ program starts

PABLO — Salish Kootenai College's “Making Fitness Fun Program” (open to youth 7 years and older) begins Monday, June 12 and goes from 8:30 a.m.-noon, Monday through Thursday, until Aug. 17. The program will be held at the Salish Kootenai College Joe McDonald Gymnasium. Physical activities will be provided in-between breakfast and lunch. Activities include: swimming, kickball, football, basketball, dodge ball, Native games, volleyball, soccer, shinny, bike riding and gardening. Activities are intended to keep kids busy and active during the summer months. Transportation is provided Monday through Thursday to Ronan and Polson Boys and Girls Clubs daily at about noon. Seniors compete in Senior Olympic Games

MISSION VALLEY — The 32nd Annual Montana Senior Olympic Games will be held in the Pablo, Polson, Ronan areas on June 15-17, 2017. This involves competition in 14 different sports for men and women who are 50 years of age and older. The sports include: archery, bowling, badminton, cycling, basketball, golf, horseshoes, pickle ball, race-walk, tennis, table tennis, road race, swimming and track & field. Catch the wave of God’s love at VBS

POLSON — Kids can “Catch the Wave of God’s Amazing Love” at Vacation Bible Camp at the Polson United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to noon, June 19-23. The camp’s theme, “Surf Shack,” will use the analogy of waves to help campers experience God’s love. Activities will include music, puppets, story-time, games, science, crafts and mission. A light snack will be served. Camp will end with a Friday Celebration Day picnic provided for the campers and their families from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Registration for kids, entering kindergarten-12 years of age is now open. Bring ‘crackers and picks’ to Chamber Crab Fest

RONAN — The Chamber Crab Fest will take place June 23, in the City Park, weather permitting. The Chamber gets so many requests for this event that they have decided to make it an annual event. It is an all you can eat event with lots of other foods to go with it. You need to bring your own crackers, picks and alcoholic drinks, if you wish. There will be beverages available for purchase. 

Tickets are $35 per person or $10 for those under 10-years-old and may be purchased at Access Montana, Glacier Bank, Ronan Flower Mill, Polson First Interstate Bank, Valley Bank, and Ronan Power Products. Don’t miss the duck races and new this year is a silent auction fundraiser to help save the Ronan Main Street Arch. It is always lots of fun and good food. For tickets call 406-676-8300.

 

Mission Valley Rises: holds meeting

Ronan — A meeting of non-partisan community members will take place on Friday, June 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Safe Harbor office, 63506 Highway 93, Ronan (on the corner of Eisenhower St. and Highway 93). Everyone is welcome to come to the meeting of this community-led group that has now merged with the Mission Mountain Community Power group. Please join us as we explore effective ways to address issues that impact residents of the Mission Valley through sharing of information and positive action. We are currently planning a forum addressing the local impacts of the proposed national health care reform legislation.

Montecahto rummage sale set for June 23 and 24

POLSON – The Montecahto Club will hold its rummage sale at the Finley Point Fire Station on Friday, June 23, from noon-5 p.m. and Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fire station is next door to the clubhouse, across Highway 35 from the Finley Point Grill. Money raised at the rummage sale goes to the club’s ongoing projects, including an annual scholarship for a Polson High School senior and sending gift boxes to those serving in the military.

Watch NRA Rodeo in PolsonPOLSON — Mission Mountain NRA Rodeo is on Friday and Saturday, June 23-24 beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be youth events including mutton bustin’ and mini bull riding at 7:30 p.m. NRA Rodeo events include bareback, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, team roping, tie down toping, ladies and youth barrel racing, ladies and youth breakaway roping and bull riding. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years of age. Tickets will be available at the gate. There will be no pre-sale tickets. Food, beverage and beer garden concessions will be available. There will also be live music after the Friday night performance. (Free vendors fair, no food items.) Annual Nesting Place Baby Fair to be held

POLSON — The Nesting Place’s fifth annual Baby Fair will be held Saturday, June 24, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the front parking lot of Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, 6, Thirteenth Ave. E. Visit with the only board certified obstetricians in the valley, community groups, vendors and Department of Public Health and Human Services representatives. There will be information, tours of the Nesting Place and birthing rooms, free child car seat safety checks, a free children’s clothing exchange and refreshments, plus raffle drawings, kids’ games and the Polson Fire Department will be on hand. The Carnival goes from 12:30-5:30 p.m. and the Circus has two performances, one at 2 p.m. and another at 4:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit SAFE Harbor. ST. IGNATIUS — The St. Ignatius Volunteer Fire Department Fireman’s Auction will take place on Saturday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at the Old Town Field. Concessions begin at that time and include hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw and ice cream. Meals will be served until the end of the auction at approximately 5 p.m. (Purchase a meal and you’re entered in the door prize drawing.) The silent auction starts at 11 a.m.; the live auction starts at noon with raffle drawings and door prizes. POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery, 306 Main Street - Polson, presents “Single, Double, Triple,” an exhibit featuring Sandpiper member artists Karla Martinson (mixed media), Juanita Small Salmon (painter), Matt and Heather Holmes (mixed media and raku pottery), Holly Wurl (leather), and guest Kay Langland of Moondance Artwork and Jewelry. This exhibit runs from June 25-July 28. The artist reception is scheduled for Friday, June 30, from 5-7 p.m. at the Gallery.

Bulldogs Basketball Camps for two age groups held

ST. IGNATIUS — The St. Ignatius Bulldogs will hold Basketball Camps from June 26-30 at the St. Ignatius School gymnasium. Lil Guy Basketball Camp for students entering grades 1-4 will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Boys entering grades 5-8 may participate in Basketball Camp from 12:30-5 p.m.  Students will need appropriate exercise clothes, a pair of basketball shoes and a water bottle.
