2019 Farmers Markets

Lake County vendors invited to Bigfork through Oct. 9

BIGFORK — The Bigfork Farmers’ Market Cooperative will take place each Wednesday until October 9. The market takes place between 3-6 p.m. on the lawn at The Bigfork VFW, 8098 Highway 35. Ronan Farmers Market through September 26

RONAN — The 2019 Ronan Farmers Market will open on Thursday, May 16, at the Ronan Visitors’ Center. Hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursdays throughout the spring and summer until Sept. 26 (except for July 4). For more information, call 406-676-5901 or go to cryse. heiner@lakecountycdc.org. Shop local at Polson's farmers market through Sept. 

POLSON — Starting on Friday, May 3, Polson Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Friday, rain or shine. The market is located at Third Ave. W. and will have homegrown produce and plants, coffee, jewelry, soaps, popsicles, baked goods, meats, eggs, cheese, preserved foods, fabric, photographic and handmade art, beauty products, wood working and much, much more. Class offers help for caregivers through June 7

POLSON — Are you caring for a loved one? Providence St. Joseph Medical Center is hosting the Area VI Agency on Aging’s six-week series of classes designed to help caregivers with the many physical and emotional challenges they face. Library begins monthly movie night

POLSON — Enjoy “Friday Night at the Library” on the fourth Friday of each month. North Lake County Library will show movies rated PG or PG-13 ( posted on our website) and make fresh popcorn. This program debuts Friday, Jan. 25. Be in the library before 6 p.m. to be included. Feel free to bring your own nonalcoholic beverage and snacks.

Move for better balance

RONAN — Tai Ji Quan is a moving-for-better-balance class and will be offered by a certified instructor at the MSU Lake County Extension on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. beginning May 13. This is an alternative exercise training program for improving balance and preventing falls. There is no cost. Please wear good shoes and clothes you can move in and bring water. Move for better balance through June

POLSON — The spring session of “Moving for Better Balance,” an adapted Tai Chi program, will begin on Tuesday, April 9. New exhibit begins at Sandpiper Art Gallery through June 14

POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery, 306 Main Street, Polson, presents until June 14, “As I Was Wandering.” This exhibit will be everything we love about Montanans and the Montana experience. This show will feature past and present member artists; Sue Arneson (Montana Watercolor Artist), Carolyn Ekland-Olson (World Wide Photography), Karla Martinson (3D Paintings & Publisher), Mary Kelley (Plein Aire and the Old Masters in Oil), Judith Wright (Mixed Media). Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Recovery support available

RONAN —Recovery support is available for those struggling with addiction at The Never Alone Recovery Hall (Hwy. 93, old Boys and Girls Club), every day of the week. The Never Alone Recovery Hall is a peer support dropin center. We are simply recovering people offering our experience, strength, and hope to our community members who are struggling with addiction issues. All groups and services are free. Please feel welcome to drop in and check us out.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays a noon meditation group is held and from 1-5 p.m. individual peer support is available.

Mondays a women’s support group takes place from 6-8 p.m.

Tuesdays there are recovery stories and videos heard from 6-8 p.m.

Wednesdays Narcotics Anonymous meets from 6-8 p.m.

Thursdays an early recovery skills groups meets from 6-8 p.m.

Fridays from 8-9 p.m. The Red Road to Recovery group meets.

Saturdays a co-dependent support group meets at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. special events take place (events change).

Family movie night happens from 6-8 p.m. on Sundays.

Montana Senior Olympic Games held in Missoula

MISSOULA — The 34th annual Montana Senior Olympic Games will be held in Missoula on June 13-15, 2019. This involves competition in 14 different sports for men and women who are 50 years of age and older as of Dec. 31, 2019. The sports include: archery, bowling, badminton, cycling, basketball, golf, horseshoes, pickle ball, race-walk, tennis, table tennis, road race, swimming and track & field. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded. Social events include a social hour at 6 p.m. and a pasta dinner buffet beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the Fort Missoula Regional Park Bella Vista Pavilion, (2725CCC Road), for $11. Space activities included in library program

POLSON — Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. from June 20-Aug. 8, the North Lake County Library will have space-centered children’s programming. Crafts and activities will be included with each presentation. Martin Horejsi, Associate Professor of Instructional Technology and Science Education, Solar System Ambassador for NASA, and longtime meteorite hound, will run a youth-oriented program on the Moon, Mars and Meteorites on Thursday, June 20. This presentation will be followed by a hands-on activity suitable for school-aged kids. Martin Horejsi will follow up the youth program with a second program for adults: “Meteorites: An Inconvenient Science” at 1 p.m.

Educational open house planned in Proctor

PROCTOR — The Friends of Lake Mary Ronan will hold an educational open house with speakers and displays at the Proctor Valley Community Center, (Old Proctor School House - two miles west of Dayton on 352) on June 22, from 1- 3 p.m. This event will provide a learning experience for kids and adults alike. President of FLMR Jim Baker will speak from 1-1:30 p.m. Research scientist Jim Craft will talk about water quality from 1:30-2 p.m. Septic leaching and grants will be area resource specialist, Samantha Tappenbeck’s topic from 2-2:30 p.m. Fisheries biologist Sam Bourret will talk about illegal fish introduction from 2:30-3 p.m. Displays to include: aquatic invasive species, Montana parks, soil and conservation districts. There will also be displays of emergency equipment from Chief Cliff Fire Department and there will be live demonstrations.

Fireman’s auction includes food, raffle, prizes

ST. IGNATIUS — The St. Ignatius Volunteer Fire Department Fireman’s Auction will take place on Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at the Old Town Field. Concessions begin at that time and include hamburgers, hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw. YELLOW BAY — The Data and Donuts Seminar series is offered every summer during the first four weeks of the Flathead Lake Biological Station Summer Session. The series offers students and the public a chance to hear speakers across a wide variety of ecological topics. Come to the seminar at the FLBS at Yellow Bay on Monday, June 24, from 10-11 a.m. These seminars are open to the public, and everyone is invited to attend. Stop by to have a donut and learn more about ecology, and current research in the Flathead. The speaker for June 24 is Janene Lichtenberg, department head of wildlife and fisheries at Salish Kootenai College. Summer reading program continues

POLSON — The North Lake County Public Library continues their “A Universe of Stories” program at 10:30 a.m. Jessie Herbert and the other staff of SpectrUM Discovery Area in Missoula will help us explore the universe within as they bring their “Science of Me” to our library for a fun, hands-on morning of activities suitable for kids of all ages.

Youngsters learn about great outdoors

BIGFORK — Flathead Fledglings – This one hour program from 11 a.m. – noon, designed for children ages 4-7, gives kids a chance to get outside and learn about the great outdoors. This is the second in a five-part series, although participants need not attend all five. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. This event takes place at Wayfarers Harry Horn picnic shelter. The fee is $4 per child.
