This involves competition in 14 different sports for men and women who are 50 years of age and older. POLSON — “Antarctic Freshwater Lakes in the World’s Coldest Desert” by Shawn Devlin will be the next educational program of the Mission Mountain Audubon Society on Tuesday, June 26, at 7 p.m. in the Polson library meeting room. Everyone is welcome. Shawn will introduce us to the vibrant benthic oasis of freshwater lakes in the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica. The coldest desert in the world doesn’t sound like a place you might go to study lakes, but that is exactly the place to find some of the most amazing benthic algae in the world. Dr. Shawn Devlin is an Assistant Research Professor with the University of Montana at the Flathead Lake Biological Station.
