Join ‘Moving for Better Balance’
POLSON — Moving for Better Balance, an evidence-based, adapted Tai Chi class, will be offered by the Area VI Agency on Aging on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11 a.m. for 12 weeks, May 1-July 19. Classes will be held at the Polson Senior Center. The fee is $35 for senior center members, $50 for non-members (they get a membership included), but everything is on a slidingscale. Activities planned for parents, young children
POLSON — Join the Parents as Teacher Home Visitors as we partner with Youth Services Librarian Kendra during the North Lake County Public Library’s Mother Goose Story Hour at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 25. The theme will be colors and shapes. We’ll have activities, treats, and, of course, Kendra will read us fun books on the topics. Pregnant moms and families with children under the age of 5 are welcome to attend the Parents as Teachers Community Connections. This is a good chance to meet other families with young children, and to learn more about the Parents as Teachers Home Visiting program. We’ll have a drawing for a door prize, and we often give out free books to the children in attendance. YELLOW BAY — The 2018 Data and Donuts Seminar series is offered every summer during the first four weeks of the FLBS Summer Session. The series offers students and the public a chance to hear speakers across a wide variety of ecological topics. ST. IGNATIUS — St. Ignatius Christian Missionary Alliance Church will offer “Operation Arctic” Vacation Bible School. Library hosts UofM professor
POLSON — “Antarctic Freshwater Lakes in the World’s Coldest Desert” by Shawn Devlin will be the next educational program of the Mission Mountain Audubon Society on Tuesday, June 26, at 7 p.m. in the Polson library meeting room. Everyone is welcome. Shawn will introduce us to the vibrant benthic oasis of freshwater lakes in the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica. The coldest desert in the world doesn’t sound like a place you might go to study lakes, but that is exactly the place to find some of the most amazing benthic algae in the world. Dr. Shawn Devlin is an Assistant Research Professor with the University of Montana at the Flathead Lake Biological Station.
Library offers technology, computer class
POLSON — This program of courses can provide you with computer and technology basics. Accordion group moves July jam session to Somers
SOMERS — The North West Accordion Jam will be held in July in Somers, behind the Vista Linda Restaurant, in lieu of Polson, so we won’t be at the Elks. We will resume at the Elks on Aug. 4. July 4th Arlee Powwow begins
ARLEE — The 120th annual Arlee Powwow celebration begins Monday, July 2, and ends Sunday, July 8. All events are open to the public and free of charge. Arts, crafts, stick games, dance competitions, Indian and other ethnic foods will be available. Absolutely no alcohol, firearms, unleashed dogs or motorcycles are allowed in the camp area. This year’s dance competition will expand to 31 categories. There will be separate style categories for adults age 40-59. Women and men 60 years and over will be in competition categories of all styles combined. The event takes place on the powwow grounds on Powwow Road in Arlee. Arlee Jocko Valley Museum opens
ARLEE — Two photo exhibits will be center stage at the opening of the Arlee Jocko Valley Museum on July 4th. Troy Felsman’s photo exhibit with biographical notes of Salish Pend d’Oreille ancestors of the Jocko will be on display. The second exhibit will honor the Jocko Valley inductees into the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center. Additionally, there will be a photo montage of Arlee Warriors’ boys basketball back to back state championship team.
The historic church/museum building houses a continuous photo and artifacts display of veteran memorials, homesteaders, and Native Americans. The Arlee Jocko Valley Museum debuts this year’s displays on July 4th from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The museum is open every other Saturday from 2-4 p.m. until Labor Day or by appointment by calling Alvaretta Morin at 406-726-3167.

ARLEE — “Salute to America” is the parade theme for the 65th annual Arlee Fourth of July Parade. Registration will be at Arlee High School entryway, with parade line up beginning in the parking lot. The parade begins at high noon, traveling south on Fyant Street turning West onto Bouch before turning north and returning to the high school via Morigeau street. The parade will not be traveling on Highway 93 due to highway department restrictions. Parade categories consist of: patriotic, clubs and organizations, commercial, western, Indian, vehicle, business, novelty and humorous. Trophies will be awarded at the Arlee Jocko Valley Museum following the parade. The museum will be open on the 4th and throughout the summer from 2-4 p.m. every other Saturday. Summer theatre opens with ‘After the Ball’ through July 22
POLSON —The Port Polson Players’ 2018 summer season, (their 43rd summer season), opens with the musical “After the Ball.” The show features music from the Gay ‘90s through the Roaring ‘20s, along with the title song, parlor tunes, ragtime, cowboy ballads, and Tin Pan Alley favorites. Cultural Arts Fair, exhibits at Ninepipes
CHARLO — Ninepipes Museum is honored that Joshua Marcea, a first descendant of the Bitterroot Salish tribe, will exhibit his sterling silver setting and lapidary work, which he combines to make handmade one-of-a-kind pieces. Marcea also does leather tooling and carving to make wallets and sheathes for his handmade inlayed knives. The Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana's second annual Cultural Arts Fair will be on the museum grounds from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 7. This fun, family-friendly outdoor arts fair will be an opportunity for Montana artists to exhibit and sell their work to visitors enjoying their summer vacations in the Mission Valley as well as to local friends and neighbors.
