Library begins monthly movie night

POLSON — Enjoy “Friday Night at the Library” on the fourth Friday of each month. North Lake County Library will show movies rated PG or PG-13 ( posted on our website) and make fresh popcorn. This program debuts Friday, Jan. 25. Be in the library before 6 p.m. to be included. Feel free to bring your own nonalcoholic beverage and snacks.

Recovery support available

RONAN —Recovery support is available for those struggling with addiction at The Never Alone Recovery Hall (Hwy. 93, old Boys and Girls Club), every day of the week. The Never Alone Recovery Hall is a peer support dropin center. We are simply recovering people offering our experience, strength, and hope to our community members who are struggling with addiction issues. All groups and services are free. Please feel welcome to drop in and check us out.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays a noon meditation group is held and from 1-5 p.m. individual peer support is available.

Mondays a women’s support group takes place from 6-8 p.m.

Tuesdays there are recovery stories and videos heard from 6-8 p.m.

Wednesdays Narcotics Anonymous meets from 6-8 p.m.

Thursdays an early recovery skills groups meets from 6-8 p.m.

Fridays from 8-9 p.m. The Red Road to Recovery group meets.

Saturdays a co-dependent support group meets at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. special events take place (events change).

Family movie night happens from 6-8 p.m. on Sundays.

Celebrate Recovery ministers to anyone

POLSON — Celebrate Recovery Ministry takes place at Polson Foursquare on Sundays between 5-8 p.m.

All are welcome to join us each Sunday evening. CR is a Christ-centered 12-step recovery ministry for anyone with hurts, habits or hang-ups. New hours announced for MO

POLSON — Miracle of America’s hours are now 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 1:30-6 p.m. on Sundays. Some holidays may be shorter hours as well, so it is best to call 406-883-6804 first. Our free “Night at the Museum” is on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Donations or treats are always welcome. Schoolteachers are encouraged to give extra credit for a report from attending students.

Montecahto Club invites new members

 POLSON — The Montecahto Club meets the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. We are a social and service organization and sponsor a scholarship for a graduating senior, cook and serve lunch at “Soup’s On,” collect for the Food Bank, send Care packages to the overseas troops and help out wherever we can. Dryland pasture improvement field walk planned


CHARLO — The Lake County Conservation District and Natural Resources Conservation Service are hosting a dryland pasture improvement field walk at 10 a.m. on July 31. The walk will be held at 39956 Johnson Road in Charlo. Come learn what grass, legume and native wildflower species are working to improve dryland pastures in Lake County. Move for better balance

RONAN — Tai Ji Quan is a moving-for-better-balance class and will be offered by a certified instructor at the MSU Lake County Extension on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. beginning May 13. Mission Mountain Classic Runs benefit Boys and Girls Club


RONAN —The 39th annual Mission Mountain Classic Run, (5k and 10k), begins at 8 a.m. behind Glacier Bank. Love the Mission Valley and Mountains? Come out and run it with us this August. Pioneer Days Celebration continues in Ronan


RONAN — Pioneer Days 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held on Aug. 3 at Ronan High School. Enjoy camaraderie with horse lovers


RONAN — Mission Valley Back-Country Horsemen will hold their next monthly meeting on Aug. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW in Ronan on Round Butte Rd. During the Ronan Pioneer Days celebration our club will help with the rodeo parking for three days. This month’s program will include information on packing with dried foods by Scott and Bonnie Kiser, who are avid hikers and do packing with horses also. They have many years of experience preparing tasty meals. Come and enjoy the organization’s camaraderie as we enjoy all horse related activities.

Outdoors program for children held


BIGFORK — Flathead Fledglings – This one hour program from 11 a.m. – noon, designed for children ages 4-7 gives kids a chance to get outside and learn about the great outdoors. This is the final in a five-part series, although participants need not attend all five. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. This event takes place at Wayfarers Harry Horn picnic shelter. The fee is $4 per child. 


Watch one-time showing of ‘Apollo 13’


POLSON — Join us at Showboat Cinemas for a special one-time showing of “Apollo 13,” on Thursday, Aug. 8, from 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. This presentation is in partnership with Polson Theatres.

Please make sure to stop by the library after July 18 to pick up your free tickets; you must have tickets to attend. No concessions will be available on the day of the showing. The movie is 2 hours and 20 minutes long. It is rated PG.

Biological station hosts annual open house


YELLOW BAY — The Flathead Lake Biological Station will hold their annual open house on Friday, Aug. 9, from 1-5 p.m. The annual open house provides an opportunity to learn more about FLBS research and education around the world along with the ecology of Flathead Lake and its watershed and allows FLBS scientists to showcase the breadth of their activities. Science presentations, boat trips on their 30 foot research vessel, the Jessie B, interactive science demonstrations for the kids, science kiosks presented by FLBS researchers and Monte, the UM mascot are planned. Family programming hosted at state park


BIGFORK — Something to Hoot About - Join a ranger and explore the amazing adaptations that allow owls to thrive in diverse ecosystems, and discuss threats to their habitat today at Wayfarers Harry Horn picnic shelter from 7-8 p.m. After the program, Montana Wild Wings Recovery Center will introduce visitors to several live owls. Visitors may even learn to hoot hello to an owl. There is a $4 per person or $10 per family fee.


PHS Class of 1979 hosts 40 year reunion


POLSON — Polson High School's class of 1979 will hold their 40th class reunion Aug. 9-11. Fellow PHS alumni who graduated in different years around this time are welcome to join the class of '79 at the East Shore Smokehouse on Friday evening. Go batty with Audubon group


Join the Flathead Audubon Society on this cooperative trip with Fish, Wildlife and Parks on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8:30-11 p.m. The group will go to a site with known bat activity and use electronic equipment to detect the ultrasonic calls of bats flying overhead. Mist nets will be used to capture bats for closer inspection. Wildlife will demonstrate the equipment, handle bats and talk about the amazing adaptations bats have for survival. It is an incredible experience to see bats up close and learn about these amazing mammals. Participants will not be allowed to touch or handle bats. Headlamps or flashlights are necessary. Rotary Chili Cook-off held in Polson


POLSON — The 13th annual Rotary Chili Cook-off will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Riverside Park. Make sure you purchase your raffle tickets, which help raise funds for various children’s programs. The cash prize awards will be: $500-first, $250-second, and $100-third. An additional non-monetary prize will be given for best decorated or themed booth.

Taster kits will be sold to the general public for a fee of $3 per kit or 2 for $5. People’s choice ballots will be provided with each kit purchased and must be shown when requesting samples of contestant chili.

Sandpiper hosts annual art festival


POLSON — The 48th annual Sandpiper Art Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Founded in 1971, the Sandpiper Art Festival is a popular one-day, juried outdoor festival that features fine art and artisan crafts. It is held on the Lake County Courthouse lawn in Polson. Taking place simultaneously with the annual car show (one block away), the Sandpiper Art Festival is typically attended by several thousand visitors and is a great opportunity for sales and exposure to new customers. The festival offers live entertainment throughout the day and several onsite food or beverage vendors.

Paddle for clean water


BIGFORK — Bring your kayak, canoe, SUP or other human-propelled watercraft to the fifth annual Flathead Lakers “Poker Paddle” event in Bigfork. The fun starts at 10 a.m. Set your own pace on a short, middle or long course and collect playing cards at marked destinations.
