‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

POLSON — Moving for Better Balance, an evidence-based, adapted Tai Chi class, will be offered by the Area VI Agency on Aging on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11 a.m. for 12 weeks, May 1-July 19. Classes will be held at the Polson Senior Center. The fee is $35 for senior center members, $50 for non-members (they get a membership included), but everything is on a slidingscale. July 4th Arlee Powwow begins

ARLEE — The 120th annual Arlee Powwow celebration begins Monday, July 2, and ends Sunday, July 8. All events are open to the public and free of charge. Arts, crafts, stick games, dance competitions, Indian and other ethnic foods will be available. Absolutely no alcohol, firearms, unleashed dogs or motorcycles are allowed in the camp area. This year’s dance competition will expand to 31 categories. There will be separate style categories for adults age 40-59. Women and men 60 years and over will be in competition categories of all styles combined. The event takes place on the powwow grounds on Powwow Road in Arlee. Summer theatre opens with ‘After the Ball’ through July 22

POLSON —The Port Polson Players’ 2018 summer season, (their 43rd summer season), opens with the musical “After the Ball.” The show features music from the Gay ‘90s through the Roaring ‘20s, along with the title song, parlor tunes, ragtime, cowboy ballads, and Tin Pan Alley favorites. All summer theatre shows are presented at Polson’s beautiful theatre on the lake on the Polson golf course - U.S. Hwy. 93, Boettcher Park. This regional premier plays from July 5-22. Cultural Arts Fair, exhibits at Ninepipes

CHARLO — Ninepipes Museum is honored that Joshua Marcea, a first descendant of the Bitterroot Salish tribe, will exhibit his sterling silver setting and lapidary work, which he combines to make handmade one-of-a-kind pieces. Marcea also does leather tooling and carving to make wallets and sheathes for his handmade inlayed knives. The Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana's second annual Cultural Arts Fair will be on the museum grounds from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 7. This fun, family-friendly outdoor arts fair will be an opportunity for Montana artists to exhibit and sell their work to visitors enjoying their summer vacations in the Mission Valley as well as to local friends and neighbors.

Little ones invited to ‘Brushing your teeth’ activities at library

POLSON — Join the Parents as Teacher Home Visitors as we partner with Youth Services Librarian Kendra during the North Lake County Public Library’s Mother Goose Story Hour at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 9, and for all the Mondays in July. The theme for July 9 will be brushing your teeth. We’ll have activities, treats, toothbrushes and, of course, Kendra will read us fun books on the topic. Pregnant moms and families with children under the age of 5 are welcome to attend the Parents as Teachers Community Connections. We’ll have a drawing for a door prize, and we often give out free books to the children in attendance. Get muddy at Boys & Girls fundraiser

POLSON — The fourth annual Polson Mud Run will be held on Saturday, July 14, at the Polson Fairgrounds. This is a fundraising event for the Flathead Boys & Girls Club. The 5K obstacle course includes many different types of terrain and obstacles to overcome, including mud. Library sessions address ‘adulting’

POLSON — The third Tuesday of each summer month the North Lake County Public Library holds a fun, interactive program for teens and pre-teens called “Adulting 101.” This program is intended to help prepare the future of our nation to go out into the world (mostly) ready to survive as a new adult. We promise these sessions won’t be boring and will provide lunch. Sessions start at 1 p.m. in the library meeting room. Please let us know if you plan to come so we can be sure there is enough food. ELMO — The Kootenai Tribe, also known as the Ktunaxa Ksanka Band, welcome all nations and the general public to the 38th annual Ksanka Standing Arrow Powwow at the Elmo Powwow Grounds on Thursday, July 19 to Sunday, July 22. The Ksanka Standing Arrow Powwow is a Native American gathering featuring drumming, dancing and traditional dress.

POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club meets for lunch meetings the first and third Thursday of each month at the KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah Room from noon-1 p.m. Mark Nelson, Solid Waste Manager at the Lake County Transfer Station, will be the speaker for Polson Kiwanis Club on July 19. Mark will tell us about the state of the recycling program and what is happening locally and nationally. Lake County is making every effort to help its residents learn how to reduce waste and recycle. This benefits the environment, saves the county money, and reduces what goes in the landfill. Swim in four events charity event

BIG ARM — The fifth annual Flathead Lake Swim Series will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 20-22, at Big Arm State Park with four swims over 3 days: 5K, 10K, 1 mile and ½ mile. This is a charity event with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Enduring Waves Foundation.
