POLSON — The second production by the Port Polson Players is “Foxfire,” a Hallmark Hall of Fame classic. Annie Nations and her husband Hector loved their life together in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but when Hector dies, Annie has to decide if she can handle the wilderness on her own. When son Dillard, a rising country music singing star returns, he must decide the fate of the farm. Montana Governor’s Awards for the Arts recipients and Players’ producers Neal and Karen Lewing are featured. POLSON - The Polson Kiwanis Club hold lunch meetings the first and third Thursday of each month downstairs in the KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah room, from noon-1 p.m. Toni Young, Share the Spirit’s director, will speak about the local organization’s efforts since 1998 to make sure Lake County children have the best Christmas possible. Share the Spirit has been in partnership with the United States Marines and Toys for Tots for the past 15 years, and also with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, which raises money for a shopping excursion at Wal-Mart. YELLOW BAY – The Flathead Lake Biological Station’s annual open house will be held Friday, Aug. 3 from 1-5 p.m. The open house provides an opportunity for the public to learn more about the ecology of Flathead Lake and its watershed, as well as FLBS and its research around the globe. The open house allows FLBS scientists to showcase the breadth of their activities, as well as show examples of how ecological research at FLBS benefits Flathead Lake and visitors and residents. CHARLO — Ninepipes Museum is honored that artists will exhibit their beautiful work in the Earl W. Wharton Memorial Gallery during the 2018 season. Nancy Miller, a Montana native, will exhibit her work on Saturday, Aug. 4. Miller paints different mediums and different subjects, but her favorite is flowers. POLSON — Join Flathead Audubon on Friday, Aug. 10, from 8:30-11 p.m. for a cooperative field trip with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to go to a site with known bat activity. Electronic equipment will be used to detect the ultrasonic calls of bats flying overhead and mist nets will be used to capture bats for closer inspection. Wildlife biologists Lewis Young, Lisa Bate and Chris Hammond will demonstrate the equipment, handle bats captured in the mist nets and talk about the amazing adaptations bats have for navigating, catching food and hibernating. Participants will not be allowed to touch or handle the bats. Head lamps or flashlights are necessary and come with suitable clothing for the evening temperatures. BIGFORK — On Aug. 12, human-propelled watercraft will start from the Bigfork community dock and paddle a short, middle, or extended distance (5-plus miles) course to designated stops in the beautiful northeastern part of Flathead Lake, collecting one playing card at each location. Prizes are awarded for both the top poker hands and the worst poker hands. Each player receives a commemorative gift. There will be a picnic after-party with live music at Brookside Yard provided by the Flathead Lake Brewing Company. There will also be a silent auction. Participation is limited to the first 150 paddle craft.
