2019 Farmers Markets

Lake County vendors invited to Bigfork through Oct. 9

BIGFORK — The Bigfork Farmers’ Market Cooperative will take place each Wednesday until October 9. The market takes place between 3-6 p.m. on the lawn at The Bigfork VFW, 8098 Highway 35. Ronan Farmers Market through September 26

RONAN — The 2019 Ronan Farmers Market will open on Thursday, May 16, at the Ronan Visitors’ Center. Hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursdays throughout the spring and summer until Sept. 26 (except for July 4). For more information, call 406-676-5901 or go to cryse. heiner@lakecountycdc.org. They are seeking produce and prepared food vendors. The Ronan Farmers Market offers fresh produce, cheeses, eggs, baked goods, prepared foods, and crafts from the Mission Valley.

Shop local at Polson's farmers market through Sept. 

POLSON — Starting on Friday, May 3, Polson Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Friday, rain or shine. The market is located at Third Ave. W. and will have homegrown produce and plants, coffee, jewelry, soaps, popsicles, baked goods, meats, eggs, cheese, preserved foods, fabric, photographic and handmade art, beauty products, wood working and much, much more. Class offers help for caregivers through June 7

POLSON — Are you caring for a loved one? Providence St. Joseph Medical Center is hosting the Area VI Agency on Aging’s six-week series of classes designed to help caregivers with the many physical and emotional challenges they face. Library begins monthly movie night

POLSON — Enjoy “Friday Night at the Library” on the fourth Friday of each month. North Lake County Library will show movies rated PG or PG-13 ( posted on our website) and make fresh popcorn. This program debuts Friday, Jan. 25. Be in the library before 6 p.m. to be included. Feel free to bring your own nonalcoholic beverage and snacks.

Move for better balance

RONAN — Tai Ji Quan is a moving-for-better-balance class and will be offered by a certified instructor at the MSU Lake County Extension on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. beginning May 13. This is an alternative exercise training program for improving balance and preventing falls. There is no cost. Please wear good shoes and clothes you can move in and bring water. Move for better balance through June

POLSON — The spring session of “Moving for Better Balance,” an adapted Tai Chi program, will begin on Tuesday, April 9. MSU alumni play golf

MSU alumni play golf POLSON — Polson Bay Golf Club will host the MSU golf scramble on July 27. The format will be similar to last year’s event. The scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. followed by a social hour and barbecue. The entry fee is $500 per team. All proceeds benefit the MSU Bobcat Athletic Scholarship Fund. LAKE COUNTY — The Flathead Reservation and Lake County Boys and Girls Club in Ronan will operate a summer program Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. from June 10-Aug. 16 (closed July 4). The cost is $20 per week or $150 for the full summer. The summer session is 10 weeks of fun – opportunities for discovery, learning, and activities galore. Watch ‘Earthwise’ documentary

POLSON — On Thursday, Aug. 15, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. the North Lake County Public Library will show “Earthrise.” This 30-minute documentary short from 2018 that tells the story of the first image captured of the Earth from space in 1968.  The “Earthrise” website is: www.earthrisefilm.com. Thanks go to Go Project Films for allowing us to screen this documentary free of charge. This film is unrated by the MPAA. This screening will be followed by fun moon-related crafts and activities appropriate for school-aged children.

Social powwow held at People’s Center

PABLO — The annual Social Powwow at the People’s Center on U.S. Highway 93 in Pablo is planned for Saturday, Aug. 17, from 1-5 p.m. and is open to all artists and vendors. This is a social gathering of native dancers, drums, stick games and singers celebrating their different native dance styles. POLSON — Please join us for the Community Dance at the Elks on Main Street on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from  7-10 p.m. Music is by Ken’s Country Combo playing a variety of classic country and vintage rock and roll music. Celebrate swans at Ninepipes

CHARLO – Join us at Ninepipes Museum on Saturday, Aug. 24, for a day of celebrating Trumpeter Swans, and view the recent installation of a nesting pair in the diorama room. Dale Becker, the Wildlife Program Manager with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will provide a power point presentation at 2 p.m. in the Montana Room of Ninepipes Lodge that describes the swans’ reintroduction project that has been in effect since 1996. The seating capacity is limited in the Montana Room, so please call the museum at 406-644-3435 to reserve your seats. Following the power point presentation, there will be a brief ceremony to celebrate the new exhibit of swans created by Jan Kauffman. Light refreshments will be served, and there is free admission to the museum for the day. 

 

Dixon School celebrates 100 years

Centennial events include a car show and vendors from 7-10 a.m.; breakfast by the Dixon Fire Dept.; history talks with Joyce Decker-Wagner and Ross Middlemist at 10 a.m. and at 3 p.m.; a parade at noon; kids’ games at 2 p.m.; a bison dinner at the Dixon Senior Center from 5-6:30 p.m.; and a dance at the school gym at 7 p.m. For more information, call Shirley Christiansen at 406-644-2323.
