New art exhibit begins at Sandpiper Gallery

‘Souvenir’ wraps up PPP summer season
POLSON — Wrapping up Port Polson Players’ summer season is “Souvenir.” Missoula favorite Alicia Bullock Muth returns to the Polson stage in this musical retelling of the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, an American socialite who was noted as the world’s worst opera singer. All summer theatre shows are presented at Polson’s beautiful theatre on the lake on the Polson golf course – U.S. Hwy. 93, Boettcher Park. This production plays from Aug. 16-26. Final ‘Adulting’ class held

Native style flutes, music on tap
CHARLO —Ninepipes Museum is honored that artists will exhibit their beautiful work in the Earl W. Wharton Memorial Gallery during the 2018 season. Nancy Vaughan’s terrific fry bread and Indian tacos will be available in conjunction with the artist receptions. David Weber, a crafter of Native American styles flutes, will bring not only his creations to exhibit at the Ninepipes’ gift shop, but provide entertainment as well. He designs, carves and crafts his flutes from a selection of more than 20 different exotic and tradition woods, birds and keys, and each piece receives careful attention to detail and tuning. Webb will perform several 15-minute concerts in the diorama room on Saturday – on the hour from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Visit with him in the museum gift shop from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. where flutes and CDs will be available for sale. POLSON — Polson’s Northwest Accordion Association’s Jam/Dance will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2. Our accordion jams/dances are held on the first Sunday of each month at the Elks ballroom on Main Street. Accordion, guitar, banjo, violin, mandolin, etc., are all welcome to come and play. Singers who sing country or accordion type music are encouraged to come with or without an instrument and to bring a mic and amp if you have them. If you play, you don’t pay, to get in. POLSON — Dance at the Elks' Ballroom, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 7-10 p.m. to the Ken’s Country Combo Band. Fort Connah Rendezvous depicts fur trade era
ST. IGNATIUS — The annual fall Fort Connah Fall Rendezvous, which depicts life during the fur trading era of Montana, is on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 9. This is a great opportunity to see the 1847 historic Hudson’s Bay Fort Connah Trading Post come to life. Gold Rush on at Dayton Daze
DAYTON — Dayton Daze, the Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department, Quick Response Unit’s annual fundraiser, kicks off at the Dayton Park with “Montana Gold Rush,” a costume event with cash prizes for best costumes. The open car show starts at 10 a.m., (registration at 9 a.m.), with cold treats, sweets, crafts and more, early in the day before the parade starts at 1 p.m., (line-up at noon). All-day activities include the rifle raffle (for a Henry Big Boy .357 magnum/.38 with case), a silent auction, a can raffle, 50/50, Billy Bob’s Barbecue, beer, kids and firefighter games, face-painting, and much more. Even the Dayton Harbor gets into the act with sailboat rides. The Mission Mountain Winery offers free wine-tasting, the Dayton Presbyterian Church will offer food and a ladies’ bazaar; and several historic buildings in Proctor will be open for tours before the parade. Science Activity Fair held
POLSON — A Science Activity Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11a.m.-3 p.m at the North Lake County Public Library. The library’s amateur astronomy club is partnering with the Coalition for Public Understanding of Science, or COPUS, which brings together brilliant scientists and organizations dedicated to science from around the globe. This year they’re throwing a science fair at the library and will give you the chance to interact with internationally acclaimed scientists and experts as well as catch up on developments closer to home, such as the work being done through SciNation on the Flathead Reservation and the library’s NASA @ My Library grant. This event will feature a variety of hands-on displays and activities, as well as freebies and swag while supplies last. Want your picture taken on the surface of the Moon? Want to meet the library’s newest telescope, thanks to the Space Science Institute and other N@ML partners? Join us.
Watch Lake County High School Rodeo
POLSON — Lake County High School Rodeo will be held at Polson Fairgrounds Saturday, Sept. 15, starting at 9:30 a.m. Two rodeos will be run that day. Watch as the girls and boys participate in a wide range of rodeo activities: barrels, saddle broncs, goat tying, and breakaway and possibly there will be sports shooting. Spend an evening with the Constitution
POLSON — You are invited to a free program at the Miracle of America Museum on Constitution Day, Monday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in the evening. A short tour of Constitution-related exhibits will be given and free pocket constitutions will be available. This will be followed by an entertaining, yet profound feature length 2017 movie, “In Search of Liberty,” in which, a man from the past shows a typical American family using wit, magic, and logic, how our Constitution is under attack and what can be done to save it. POLSON — Please join us for the Community Dance in the ballroom at the Elks on Main Street on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 7-10 p.m. Music is by Ken’s Country Combo playing a variety of vintage country and rock and roll tunes. Snacks during the break at 8:30 p.m. include cocktails and soft drinks for purchase in the bar. Fountain water is also available. On this night we will celebrate individuals who have had or will be having birthdays with a special cake provided. Everyone is welcome. No Elks membership is required. PABLO — The SKC Library’s “Used Book Sale” will take place on Sept. 19 and 20 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the SKC Library, (the second building south of Two Eagle River School in Pablo on Highway 93). All sorts of interesting titles will be available.

Hear about Mission Valley Has Talent Contest
POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Tuesday each month at the KwaTaq-Nuk Resort downstairs in the Koostatah room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker on September 20 will be Tillie Marshall who will talk about Helping Hands and the Mission Valley Has Talent contest. The MVHT is a fundraiser for Helping Hands that raised more than $6,000 this year for the fund, a nonprofit ministry supported by the Mission Valley Ministerial Association. For the 2019 MVHT they are seeking people of talent of all types between the ages of 5 to 95. In 2019 there will be age categories for the performers.
