‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

 

Free online meditation classes

ZOOM — Please join the Mission Mountain Zen Center on Wednesday, Dec. 28, and on subsequent Wednesdays, for an online meditation class led by Zen Teacher, Zenku, including meditation instruction, practice and discussion via Zoom. Horsemen stay home for April

RONAN — Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will not be holding their next monthly meeting in April due to the Covid-19 and CDC guidelines for social distancing and gatherings. Stay at home unless absolutely necessary and be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Stay safe.

Ladies Night Out held in Polson

POLSON — Grab your friends for an adult evening of shopping, food, drinks, and deals on Friday, Oct. 28, from 4-8 p.m. Do you like to shop and support all that is local? Would you like some treats and no tricks? Mark your calendars to come downtown for Ladies Night Out. Costumes highly encouraged.Participating businesses will have a $5 Savings Pass available for pick up a few weeks before the event. You can use it at the participating businesses to get $5 off your purchase of $25 or more. The pass is free, but we only have a limited supply available, so hit up those shops soon to claim yours in time! (they will be available soon). The final details are being worked out for the Costume Contest, but you will not want to miss it!

Learn about bats

POLSON — The North Lake County Public Library will hold an evening family program on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Stephanie Gillin, a Wildlife Biologist with the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes will be here to teach us all about bats. Come in all week to help us celebrate bat. Coloring pages and special displays will be out for your enjoyment.

Join the Mission Valley Choral Society

POLSON — Enjoy singing? Come join the Mission Valley Choral Society to prepare for Christmas concerts to be held in December 2022. Practices begin Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 7-9 p.m. at the New Life Church in Polson. 

Choir Director Christian Bumgarner has created a varied musical selection from Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” to “Sleigh Ride” arranged by Andy Beck and “We Wish you a Merry Christmas” arranged by Alice Parker. Child Find screenings

RONAN — For children who currently reside in the Ronan-Pablo School District: the Ronan/Pablo School District, along with the CDC Centers, will be conducting their annual Child Find free screening on Friday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the K. Wm. Harvey Elementary School. Children, age birth to 5 years 11 months old, will be screened for delays in speech, language, motor skills, and social or basic school readiness skills. 

Appointments are required and are taken on a first-come, first served basis. You may make an appointment for your child by calling Janet at 406-676-3390 ext. 7450.

 Walk-ins will be subject to availability or scheduled for a later date.

Pedal to Plate includes 26-mile bike tour

MISSION VALLEY — The Mission Mountain Area Pedal to Plate event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 24. This 26-mile scenic bike tour at the base of the Mission Mountains follows a winding route through the Jocko Valley near Arlee. Along the way, riders will stop and visit four to five local, sustainable farms with food bites offered at each stop. The ride will be on primarily rural roads, many of which are gravel (approximately seven miles). Be prepared for new farms, a locally-sourced organic food dinner, craft beers, local music and an artisan farmer’s market. Register at: www.bikereg.com/MMAPP. Early bird rate of $70 is available. Rescuers celebrated

Did you know that the Montana Memory Project provides free access to over 70,000 historic documents, photos, and other digitized objects related to Montana heritage? Learn how to search and browse the collections, use yearbooks for genealogy research and add your own opinions or memories as public comments.

Cancer support group meets

POLSON —A Cancer Support Group for anyone a?ected by cancer meets twice monthly at St. Joseph Medical Center from noon-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. 

Gatherings are informal allowing folks to drop-in when schedules and life permits. 

Brown-bag lunches are welcome. The group will meet in the Leahy Conference Room on the third floor of the medical center. For more information call 406-261-3304. 

The group welcomes those recently diagnosed, those undergoing treatment, cancer survivors, and/or family members.
