Lake County vendors invited to Bigfork through Oct. 9

BIGFORK — The Bigfork Farmers’ Market Cooperative will take place each Wednesday until October 9. The market takes place between 3-6 p.m. on the lawn at The Bigfork VFW, 8098 Highway 35. Ronan Farmers Market through September 26

RONAN — The 2019 Ronan Farmers Market will open on Thursday, May 16, at the Ronan Visitors’ Center. Shop local at Polson's farmers market through Sept. 

POLSON — Starting on Friday, May 3, Polson Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Friday, rain or shine. The market is located at Third Ave. W. and will have homegrown produce and plants, coffee, jewelry, soaps, popsicles, baked goods, meats, eggs, cheese, preserved foods, fabric, photographic and handmade art, beauty products, wood working and much, much more. Class offers help for caregivers through June 7

POLSON — Are you caring for a loved one? Providence St. Joseph Medical Center is hosting the Area VI Agency on Aging’s six-week series of classes designed to help caregivers with the many physical and emotional challenges they face. Library begins monthly movie night

POLSON — Enjoy “Friday Night at the Library” on the fourth Friday of each month. North Lake County Library will show movies rated PG or PG-13 ( posted on our website) and make fresh popcorn. This program debuts Friday, Jan. 25. Be in the library before 6 p.m. to be included. Feel free to bring your own nonalcoholic beverage and snacks.

Move for better balance

RONAN — Tai Ji Quan is a moving-for-better-balance class and will be offered by a certified instructor at the MSU Lake County Extension on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. beginning May 13. This is an alternative exercise training program for improving balance and preventing falls. There is no cost. Please wear good shoes and clothes you can move in and bring water. Move for better balance through June

POLSON — The spring session of “Moving for Better Balance,” an adapted Tai Chi program, will begin on Tuesday, April 9. New exhibit begins at Sandpiper Art Gallery through June 14

POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery, 306 Main Street, Polson, presents until June 14, “As I Was Wandering.” This exhibit will be everything we love about Montanans and the Montana experience. This show will feature past and present member artists; Sue Arneson (Montana Watercolor Artist), Carolyn Ekland-Olson (World Wide Photography), Karla Martinson (3D Paintings & Publisher), Mary Kelley (Plein Aire and the Old Masters in Oil), Judith Wright (Mixed Media). Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Recovery support available

RONAN —Recovery support is available for those struggling with addiction at The Never Alone Recovery Hall (Hwy. 93, old Boys and Girls Club), every day of the week. The Never Alone Recovery Hall is a peer support dropin center. We are simply recovering people offering our experience, strength, and hope to our community members who are struggling with addiction issues. All groups and services are free. Please feel welcome to drop in and check us out.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays a noon meditation group is held and from 1-5 p.m. individual peer support is available.

Mondays a women’s support group takes place from 6-8 p.m.

Tuesdays there are recovery stories and videos heard from 6-8 p.m.

Wednesdays Narcotics Anonymous meets from 6-8 p.m.

Thursdays an early recovery skills groups meets from 6-8 p.m.

Fridays from 8-9 p.m. The Red Road to Recovery group meets.

Saturdays a co-dependent support group meets at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. special events take place (events change).

Family movie night happens from 6-8 p.m. on Sundays.

POLSON — The Sandpiper Art and Gift Gallery, 306 Main Street, begins their new exhibit, “Where Were You Hiding?” This exhibit runs from Sept. 3-Oct. 12. This is a non-juried show, open to all artists. Artistic interpretation of the theme, in any medium, will be accepted. There is a small entry fee for non-Sandpiper member artists. Polson holds vintage country, rock'n roll dance

POLSON — Dance at the Elks' Ballroom, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 7-10 p.m. to the Ken’s Country Combo Band. They play a variety of vintage country and rock and roll (pop) tunes that you can vary your dancing to a waltz, one- or two-step, cha-cha, etc. Dress is casual. The valley showed they have an interest in old country/rock and roll, etc., type music by the attendance at Cowboy Country and The Gold Dust Girls dance, held at the Elks a few weeks ago. So, if you want a place to dance, please come and join us on the first and third Wednesday of each month. We provide snacks at 8:30 p.m. during the break. The cover charge is $5 and drinks, soft drinks and water are available for purchase in the bar.

Puppy Party II Fundraiser held

POLSON — The Mission Valley Animal Shelter’s second annual Puppy Party is being held Friday, Sept. 7, at the Red Lion Inn from 6-10 p.m. Finley Point Grill is catering the event. This largest annual fundraiser for MVAS is to raise funds for improvements to the shelter so that it can continue to fulfill its mission to “Save More Lives.” There will be over 100 silent auction items as well as 15-20 live auction items that include a Jamaica vacation, a Whitefish ski package, a handmade cedar kayak, an auto services package, a 14-foot tipi, a Glacier National Park package, valuable art, scenic flights and much, much more. Dragon Boats compete in Lakeside

LAKESIDE — The annual Montana Dragon Boat Festival will be held on Sept. 8-9, in Lakeside. The annual Montana Dragon Boat Festival brings family fun, spirited competition and colorful pageantry to Volunteer Park on Flathead Lake in Lakeside, just 10 miles south of Kalispell. Races are 200 meters and begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be live music in the entertainment pavilion. Fort Connah Rendezvous depicts fur trade era

ST. IGNATIUS — The annual fall Fort Connah Fall Rendezvous, which depicts life during the fur trading era of Montana, is on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 9. This is a great opportunity to see the 1847 historic Hudson’s Bay Fort Connah Trading Post come to life. This event is free to the public and includes demonstrations of time era activities, a chuckwagon-style barbecue, a baked goods sale, beer and wine, crafts and kids’ games. There will be historical talks after the opening ceremony at noon on Saturday. The hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Gold Rush on at Dayton Daze

DAYTON — Dayton Daze, the Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department, Quick Response Unit’s annual fundraiser, kicks off at the Dayton Park with “Montana Gold Rush,” a costume event with cash prizes for best costumes. The open car show starts at 10 a.m., (registration at 9 a.m.), with cold treats, sweets, crafts and more, early in the day before the parade starts at 1 p.m., (line-up at noon). All-day activities include the rifle raffle (for a Henry Big Boy .357 magnum/.38 with case), a silent auction, a can raffle, 50/50, Billy Bob’s Barbecue, beer, kids and firefighter games, face-painting, and much more. Even the Dayton Harbor gets into the act with sailboat rides. The Mission Mountain Winery offers free wine-tasting, the Dayton Presbyterian Church will offer food and a ladies’ bazaar; and several historic buildings in Proctor will be open for tours before the parade. After the event closes at 5 p.m., activities will shift to the newly opened Mountain Meadows at Lake Mary Ronan for spirits, food and music. Come out and support your local firefighters and emergency services personnel and have a rip-roaring time with the whole family, including your well-mannered dog(s) on leashes. See you there.

Learn Native culture, traditions

PABLO — The People’s Center holds Native American Awareness Week activities during the second week of September. Events are geared towards educating school children about Salish, Pend’Oreille and Kootenai history, culture and traditions. Library toddler program begins at new time

POLSON — The Mother Goose reading program offered by North Lake County Library remains on Mondays but now begins at 10:30 a.m. Please take note of this new time. The half-hour program is for toddlers (ages 0-3) and their caregivers any Monday the library is open. There are always nursery rhymes and stories galore. Science Activity Fair held

POLSON — A Science Activity Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11a.m.-3 p.m at the North Lake County Public Library. The library’s amateur astronomy club is partnering with the Coalition for Public Understanding of Science, or COPUS, which brings together brilliant scientists and organizations dedicated to science from around the globe. This year they’re throwing a science fair at the library and will give you the chance to interact with internationally acclaimed scientists and experts as well as catch up on developments closer to home, such as the work being done through SciNation on the Flathead Reservation and the library’s NASA @ My Library grant. This event will feature a variety of hands-on displays and activities, as well as freebies and swag while supplies last. Want your picture taken on the surface of the Moon? Watch Lake County High School Rodeo

POLSON — Lake County High School Rodeo will be held at Polson Fairgrounds Saturday, Sept. 15, starting at 9:30 a.m. Two rodeos will be run that day. Watch as the girls and boys participate in a wide range of rodeo activities: barrels, saddle broncs, goat tying, and breakaway and possibly there will be sports shooting.
