Back-to-school ads signal end of summer

DIXON — Can you believe Melon Days are almost here, which also means the Sanders County Fair is next, and then it’s “back-to-school.” I used to dread those back-to-school ads, which start in July as a reminder that my long vacation would soon come to an end. It took many years before I stopped dreading going back to school and dreaming that I slept in, or my classroom was moved and I couldn’t find it. Blessings and courage to our next generations who all start a new year with challenges and hopes of making a difference. Times have changed. I hear the Dixon Melons are in the stores, but I haven’t yet sampled one. What a fun time in this part of Western ...

RONAN — Is it hot enough for you, yet? I sure hope it cools down some, as I don’t do well in the heat. With fire season off to a good start, we could sure use some rain. There were 18 people here to play cards on July 15. Sharon Guenzler had the high score, Mary Howell had the low score, Deann...

Montana home better than relaxing on Hawaiian beach

RONAN — The last time I had this column in the paper, I remarked that it would be nice to be relaxing on a nice beach somewhere. Well, we did that, and it wasn’t all that great. One thing that we learned is that Montana is much prettier than Hawaii. It’s good to be home. The Foot Clinic ...
