Council on Aging still seeking volunteer drivers

RONAN — I hope you had as nice a Valentine’s Day as I did. My hubby gave me flowers and we came to the center for a great chicken dinner. (Of course I had to cook the chicken dinner and I had to remind him three times about Valentine’s Day, but you take what you can get.) Cards were played here on Feb. 4 with 20 people present. Ruby Mocabee and Ray Salomon provided the refreshments, Jim Barnes had the high score, Darlene Salomon had the low score, Sharon Guenzler had the most pinochles, and the door prize was won by Judy Penfield. If there are any cribbage players who would care to join them, this group meets each Monday afternoon at the various centers. The foot cli...

Groundhog forecasts early spring

DIXON — According to the National Groundhog, spring is on its way. There are some signs around, as I spotted a robin drinking from a birdbath and there are tiny pussy willows just peeping out. I also found three tiny pink primroses popping up from a very protected spot in a flowerbed. Thanks go to s...

Cribbage players sought

POLSON — I have had several people inquire if we had some cribbage players here at the center and I couldn’t answer that question. So, I’m asking anyone who plays cribbage and would like to get together for a friendly game or two, once a week or so, to give me a call here at the center. Who...

Montana weather preferred

RONAN — Well here we are, halfway through January and it’s snowing, the wind is blowing and the temperature has dropped. All of that sure beats floods, tornadoes and hurricanes. So, I guess we still live in a great place. We had 49 people brave the weather last Thursday to attend our evening m...

Summer warmth seems far away

RONAN  — Brrr- It’s cold out there. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some of last summer’s heat? Now that the holidays are over, we can all get back to our regular schedules. Our yearly dues are now due and they are $10 per person. Don’t forget our chicken dinner will be t...

Mild wintry weather deceptive

DIXON — With this unexpected mild winter weather (the roads are clear, just a skiff of snow and some piles around), it almost seems like spring is approaching. I know better, though. The multitudes of birds are at my feeder as though this is their only hope for survival. I love seeing bunnies hopping a...
