Letters to the Editor

Brower right for County Commission

Editor, I write to endorse the candidacy of Ann Smith Brower to the Lake County Commission. Most of my close observation of Ann Smith Brower has been in her capacity as a Ronan City Council member. In that role she has been consistently caring and conscientious. Elected office involves having to make hard choices, and in this county most particularly in the areas of land use and budget. Ann has, in my view, been able and willing to step to the plate when hard choices are necessary. She has clear vision, a level head, hears what the people have to say and makes her own choices. She takes counsel of opposing views, eschews drama, grinds no personal axes and has sought only the public go...

We need less government, more community

Editor,  We are going to the polls on June 8 to vote for some local politicians such as sheriff and county commissioner, but we, the voters, are paying more taxes than we can afford.  So, I would like to make some suggestions on how to save a buck or two.  We should lay off 30 percent...

Claims against Sheriff’s Office are unfounded

Editor,  After recent malicious and non-factual posting in the media by a group identifying themselves only as “Concerned Citizens of Lake County,” I would like to inform the residents of Lake County that every issue that has been mentioned has been investigated either by an outside agenc...

Farm subsidies benefit Taylor

Editor,  According to a data base of the U.S. Dept of Agriculture subsidies, maintained by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), Janna Taylor, Republican who wants to represent you in the Montana House, is the owner of Twin Creek Ranch, Inc., Petroleum County, (Winnet). Janna has received $1,016,...

Candidates need to acknowledge concerns

Editor, We’ve lived on Jocko Canyon Road for 20 years. Every year the road completely deteriorates before county graders arrive. Over the years we’ve contacted the county commissioners, frequently sending pictures, pleading for help.  On May 14, after (again) detailing the hazards in a...

Thank you for benefit support

Editor, The Ed Jaeger Benefit was a tremendous success due to the well-organized and well-executed work of so many.  The rod, antique and classic car owners brought and displayed many of their beautiful cars. Generous donations from businesses and individuals throughout the valley were auctioned b...

Take a stand against bullying

Editor,  To the parents, community, and all others of the Salish and Kootenai Tribes.  I am writing this letter to inform the community of the problem we have in our Ronan schools. It has come to my attention that we have eight bullies in our elementary school alone.  Now, what I want...

School board turned down valuable opportunity

Editor, I would like to add some additional information to the article in last week’s issue that provided details about the May 12 School District #30 Board meeting in Ronan. During the meeting the board decided not to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Montana Office of Public Instru...

Congrats to our graduates

Editor,  First of all, I want to say congratulations to Saint Ignatius High School Junior Spencer Horn for claiming the state’s singles tennis crown for MHZ. Way to go Spencer.  Now I would like to say congratulations to the girls softball team for making it all the way to divisional. Y...

Centennial play doesn’t disappoint

Editor, We are thinking that you must be flooded with letters like this one.  Yesterday we saw the Port Polson Players production of “Valley Full of Diamonds” by Karen and Neal Lewing. From Co Carew’s graceful interpretive dance, to the beautiful backdrop, to the sign changers, t...
