Letters to the Editor

Let your voice be heard

Editor, I attended the Rural Fire District Trustee meeting held on Feb. 10, and right from the start it was clear that two trustees were in favor of making the new fire station Fairgrounds a fully active station and the other two trustees sided with the fire chief in wanting it be used as a warehouse for brush trucks and old equipment and the city rescue boat. One trustee was absent which made the board evenly split over many hotly contested issues. Trustees Laisy and Meslin wanted the fire chief to make it a priority to recruit and train fire fighters for the new station, but Trustees Clapp and Nelson sided with the fire chief and several Polson fire fighters in the audience. I kn...

Aquatics center has superb vision statement

Editor, On Jan. 9, I sat with six other people in Teggeman's home in our South Hills community listening to an inspiring and professional presentation on the Mission Valley Aquatic Center "Make a Splash, Change a Life," planned by Project Director, Tana Seeley. Without going into the details so thoroug...

Scouting encourages youth, adults to realize dreams

Editor,  This year the Boy Scouts of America celebrates 100 years of existence. The week of Feb. 7-14 is Scout Week and a time for me to reflect.  I am fortunate to be part of this program for 52 of those years. Therefore I am openly expressing my thanks and appreciation to all the youth and ...

Let us consider peace as an option

Editor, Peace or Fear? That is the question and a non-partisan issue. Is peace an option? What is peace? Is it a concept outside of ourselves that is unreachable or is given to us as a gift? No, I say. Peace is a state of mind for which we have the option to choose every minute of the day. Whether you ...

True spirituality brings peace

Editor, This is in response to the letter placed by Bob McClellan titled "Being spiritual is very different than religious," in the Feb. 4 issue. I also caught part of that documentary on John Muir and noticed the same comment, and it struck me that the man was indeed more spiritual than religious. I'v...

Being spiritual is very different than religious

Editor, I was watching the PBS special on national parks, right after the state of the union speech on Jan. 27, and the story of John Muir, American naturalist and explorer. A comment captured my attention. It was approximately this: "John Muir was a very religious man, capturing the spiritual essence of ...

Charlo has lost a great coach

Editor, This is a letter of thanks to a great coach. I was disheartened to hear that Coach Love has stepped down as coach of the mighty Charlo Vikings football team. I will miss seeing you walk up and down the side line; sometimes jumping for joy at a great play and other times hanging your head for a ...

You will always harvest what you plant

Editor, In the past few months, the American public has been deeply disappointed by the people who have been celebrated in one way or another as icons or at least as respectable citizens. One of those so called respectable people campaigned for our nation’s highest political office. Even during the ...

Help make the aquatic center a reality

Editor, Lake County will soon have an amazing resource available to all who live here — if we all get behind it. It's a large, indoor aquatics center on the hill across from Safeway in Polson. Have you noticed the future home sign? I did. I called the number on the sign and joined the group of local...
