Quilt raffle sales in progress

Dear Editor, Thanks to the community’s continued support, the Sew and So Club is doing its last (probably) quilt raffle. This year we are recognizing the 100th year since the homesteaders settled in our area. Many local brands are on this year’s quilt.  We will be dividing the proceeds in half to the Ronan Volunteer Fire Department and the Ronan Senior Meals on Wheels program. We have been able to donate over $500 to each for several years thanks to your generous support.  Watch for us at your Ronan Seniors Center, local stores, and at the Ronan Christmas Bazaar. Drawing will be Dec. 4 at the bazaar.  Tickets are one for $1 or six for $5. Our thanks to...

Balance is key to sound decisions

Editor, Please support Judge Nels Swandal for Montana Supreme Court. As one of its seven voices, he would bring balance to the court. Our court needs clear-thinking members who have experienced and defended our cherished way of life. Judge Swandal is a third-generation Montanan, and embodies sound Montana...

Salomon is better candidate

Editor, With Election Day drawing near, the citizens of House District 12 are fortunate to have two quality men vying to represent us in Helena. These men, anyone would be glad to have as a neighbor. Both have contributed unselfishly to our communities for many years. While these are both good men, Joh...

Learn about candidates

Editor, When you go to the polls next month, please learn about the candidates. My understanding is that the position for the sheriff is non-partisan. All the candidates are advertising their political preference.   So when you go to vote, please do not just vote for someone because they have your...

Making a new family tradition

Remember being a kid and raking a huge piles of leaves just for the joy of jumping into them? The lovely earthy smell of fall leaves enveloping you as you happily tossed, kicked and crunched to your heart’s content … we carry those simple pleasures with us into adulthood.  In this electr...

Big Red Machine finally makes appearance in October

I’m very glad for some of the things my dad passed down to me. I’m glad I was one of his lucky sons that got any kind of semblance of his work ethic.  I’m glad that I got his sense of humor. If I couldn’t laugh at myself, I would be in serious trouble. And I’m glad...

Local businesses lend helping hand

Editor, Polson Loaves and Fish Food Pantry was the recent recipient of a most timely and gracious gift of meats from Glacier Bank, Country Foods/Pasta and Frank’s Meats. Glacier Bank and Country Foods both donated beef and pork that they purchased from County Fair participants. What a great...

Recent youth suicide should serve as wake-up call

Editor, The recent suicide by Tyler Clementi, who was a gay student at Rutgers University, by jumping off the George Washington bridge into the Hudson River brings up two most interesting questions in my mind: who is really to blame and where should the finger be pointed? It is so easy and handy to poi...

Decision to rescind funding agreement is disappointing

Editor, Regarding the ruling that rescinds the funding agreement maintaining the Bison Range, I am grievously disappointed. It’s difficult for me to believe that in the years of dispute prior to this agreement that such an important document would not stand up under thoughtful review. There was simp...

Vote for Toole for PSC

Editor, We have the opportunity to choose our next public service commissioner on election day, and yet many people don’t know about the candidates or even what the Public Service Commission does for us in the State of Montana. We are in the fifth PSC district and Ken Toole is asking for your vote a...
