Bulldogs open season with a pair of splits, Ahlborn goes undefeated

TROY — The Bulldogs’ number one singles player proved that he is ready to take on anyone, no matter the weather. On a cold, snowy day in St. Ignatius last Tuesday, Spencer Ahlborn battled Viking Bridger Mahlum for an 8-6 victory to open the season and playing on a sun-soaked court Saturday in Troy, Ahlborn didn’t drop a set, defeating Trojan Jake Higgins 6-0, 6-0. The Bulldogs split both matches against Bigfork and Troy. Mission coach Kimimi Ashley said Ahlborn put in a lot of work during the offseason – in the summer she would often see him hitting a ball against the wall of the local fitness center. All the practice not only improved Ahlborn’s servin...

Lady Bulldogs defeat Lady Bluehawks to snatch 3rd place at districts

LIBBY — With everything seemingly going against them and their season on the line, Mission coach Les Rice didn’t draw upon his 20 years of high-school coaching experience to come up with some complicated plan to mount a comeback – instead he wanted the Lady Bulldogs to forget everything he ...

Bulldogs come up a single game short of divisional tournament

LIBBY — The Mission Bulldogs played their best basketball of the season at the District 7-B Tournament, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the Western B Divisionals. Maybe it was the nerves of playing in their first postseason tournament in four years, maybe it was the pressure of being so clo...

Bulldogs stumble into postseason

THOMPSON FALLS — Against Plains it was the first quarter, against Thompson Falls it was the second quarter, but in both cases one slow quarter cost the Bulldogs a chance at a conference victory. On Friday against the Horsemen in the Doghouse, the Bulldogs fell behind 16-6 after the first quarter and...

THOMPSON FALLS — The Lady Bulldogs won a thrilling overtime victory in the final seconds and this time no one could take it away from them. In the game following a 31-29 loss to Seeley-Swan, where Katie McDonald’s game-winning shot was taken away because of a traveling call, Mission forward Ra...
