Pirate wrestlers sweep Dogs, beat Blue Devils

POLSON — The Polson Pirates stayed busy with four duals last week, winning three and getting edged in one other. Polson earned two dual wins over Whitefish, on the road Tuesday and in Polson on Friday. The Pirates won the first dual 78-3 by winning eight matches by pin and five by forfeit. Polson took the Friday dual 75-6, winning seven matches by pin and another five by forfeit. Freshman Nate Brooks took a big step forward as he pinned fourth-ranked Dalton Rice of Whitefish twice over the course of the week. "Nate is really coming along. I've got a lot of freshmen who are stepping up," Polson head coach Bob Owen said. On Saturday, the Pirates travelled to Frenchtown for a...

LINCOLN — If the Warriors thought getting back to the divisional tournament was going to be easy, they got a wake-up call in Lincoln Saturday. One night after the Warriors cruised to their 11th win in 11 tries, the Lynx hit two free throws in the final seconds to hand Arlee a 50-48 defeat, their fir...

RONAN — The Ronan Chiefs scored a pair of 48s at home last week, with one serving up their second win of the season. Vikings control paint to rout Red Devils

CHARLO — Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me. After being torched by the outside shot in a loss to the Red Devils in Noxon, the Vikings were determined to guard the 3-point line and let the Red Devils do all their damage inside — an area of the court the Vikings completely d...

Bulldogs can’t keep pace with Chiefs

RONAN — The Bulldogs came into Ronan limping and couldn’t keep up with the speedy Chiefs in a 48-28 runaway Ronan victory Saturday. “We’re not healthy. We had three guys that couldn’t start,” Mission coach Lloyd Phillips said. “We had two nights this week where we...

Bagnell's offense, defense lead Pirates in fourth-quarter charge over Dogs

POLSON — There are always lessons to be learned after a bad loss. The Polson Pirates seemed to have learned well from their's. After playing the Flathead Braves close through three quarters last Tuesday night — and despite not shooting very well — the Pirates' wheels came off defensively...

Aggressive defense, patient offense leads to Charlo wins

CHARLO — The Lady Vikings earned another pair of wins last week with a 35-23 road victory in Plains on Tuesday and 36-27 win at home over Noxon on Saturday night. Charlo had to work for every point in Plains, taking a 10-4 first quarter lead that the Lady Vikings built into an 18-8 halftime lead. ...

Maidens close gap but fall short against Lady Bulldogs

RONAN — The Maidens displayed a lot of progress against the Lady Bulldogs but still couldn’t come away with a win. In the 40-33 narrow loss to rival Mission at home Saturday, it looked like a different Maiden team took the court than the one that only scored one first-quarter point and went 4-...

Scarlets stymie St. Regis to stop skid

LINCOLN — With a relentless style of defense, the Scarlets’ success can be measured by how much they get under their opponent’s skin —consider Friday night a success. The Scarlets stopped a five-game losing streak by completely frustrating the St. Regis Tigers, limiting their scori...

Lady Bulldogs’ defense pesters Maidens in 7-point victory

RONAN — The Lady Bulldogs used a scrappy defense and a late run in the third quarter against the Maidens to give their coach something he has rarely had in his nearly 20 years of coaching at the school: a winning streak against Ronan. The Lady Bulldogs swiped the ball 19 times and scored the final e...
