Lady Pirates fight Park to scoreless draw

LIVINGSTON — On the heels of a one-sided defeat against Belgrade, the Lady Pirates battled Park to a 0-0 draw to salvage a tie on a two-game road trip where they didn’t score a goal. “It was a battle outright, it was a really good game,” Polson coach Michael Hewston said. “The defensive effort was amazing.” The game couldn’t have been more evenly matched, Hewston said. Park finished with nine shots, compared to Polson’s eight.  Though happy with the tie, Hewston said the Lady Pirates had three great opportunities to walk away with a W. None better than a breakaway chance in the first half. The Park goalkeeper came out and took ou...

Warriors begin season with Lincoln championship

LINCOLN — The Warrior cross country team found enough traction on a wet and sloppy course to run off with the championship at the Lincoln Invitational Thursday. Jesse Pfau, Arlee’s top runner the past year, led all Warriors. He ran the 3.5-mile trail in 21:39 to finish fourth. Pfau was leading...

EUREKA – It seems the upstart Mission cross country team likes a challenge. KALLISPELL — Youth and inexperience is usually not a good recipe for success, but don’t tell that to the Polson Lady Pirate cross country team. With a team comprised of a lone senior, two juniors and four freshmen runners, the Lady Pirates came away with a third-place finish at the Flathead In...

Slow start bites Bulldogs in Troy

TROY — You would think the Bulldogs would’ve been chomping at the bit to play the Trojans. It was their first conference game and they were coming off a huge season-opening victory against Boulder, but for some reason in Troy Friday, the Bulldogs played uninspired the first five minutes, spott...

Warrior offense grinds to a halt in loss to Drummond

DRUMMOND — The Warriors were dominated at the line of scrimmage by the Trojans and fell to the defending state champions 26-6 in Drummond Friday. The night couldn’t have started off worse for the Warriors with offensive lineman Brady Potts going down on the first play from scrimmage. The Warri...

Ronan golfers do well at Missoula tournament

MISSOULA — There were perfect conditions for golfing last week as both the Chiefs and Maidens were in action at the nine-hole University Golf Course in Missoula. In a field with six Class AA junior varsity teams as well as Ronan and Stevensville’s varsity teams, the Maidens came home with a se...

Chiefs optimistic despite loss to Butte Central

RONAN — Sometimes a final score does not tell the entire story. Surely that was the case Friday evening as the Chiefs put up a good fight but fell to ninth-ranked Butte Central, 31-0. With six players missing due to injury (including two of the team’s top runners), the Chiefs were able to hold...

Pirates come up big again at crunch time

POLSON — Just call them the comeback kids. If the beginning of the season is any indication, opposing teams should never breathe easy if they have a lead against the Polson Pirates, even late in the fourth quarter. With the poise of a veteran team, the Pirates pulled off their second fourth-quart...
