Beautiful weather greets Ronan netters in Bitterroot

It was a delayed opener for the Ronan tennis team, but last Saturday's trip to Stevensville couldn't have been better timed. The weather was absolutely spring-like, with a sunny sky and temperatures in the 60s. "Finally, after four weeks of practice we got to play," Ronan head coach Gordon Cummings said. "It was a beautiful day in Stevi." Ronan's girls won three matches in a 4-3 dual loss to Stevi, but battled in their losses.  Amber Metzger earned a 6-4, 6-4 win in the number one singles match. Seri Smith and Brianna Frank won 6-2, 6-0 at number two doubles, while Camilla Huuse and Angela Mousisyan won a tight 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) decision in the number three doubles match. ...

Polson finally opens tennis season with spurt of four duals

POLSON — It was cold but there weren't many complaints from the Polson tennis players as they officially opened their season last week. Heck, they were just glad to be playing some competition. Bulldogs open season with a pair of splits, Ahlborn goes undefeated

TROY — The Bulldogs’ number one singles player proved that he is ready to take on anyone, no matter the weather. On a cold, snowy day in St. Ignatius last Tuesday, Spencer Ahlborn battled Viking Bridger Mahlum for an 8-6 victory to open the season and playing on a sun-soaked court Saturday in ...

Polson pounds out 18 hits, tops Whitefish 17-6 in conference opener

There was a brief early hiccup that proved costly, but during the rest of Friday's softball game in Whitefish the Lady Pirates were firmly in control. Polson improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference with a 17-6 win over the Lady Bulldogs in bone-chilling cold and wind that made the game downright misera...

Cold weather, hot start

The Maidens may have played their first game in blizzard conditions, but that didn’t stop them from getting off to a hot start.  The young Maiden squad went 2-1 in their three-game homestand to open the season and are just a couple of base hits from being perfect on the season.  Making ...

Lady Bulldogs bite back after first loss

In the second week of the softball season, teams in the Western B-C learned not to make the Lady Bulldogs angry.  After being handed their first loss of the season Tuesday in a 5-2 error-filled defeat at the hands of rival Thompson Falls, the Lady Bulldogs responded by blowing out Drummond and Eureka...

Lady Pirates saddle state champ Lady Broncs with first loss

POLSON — It was the kind of test that veteran softball coach Larry Smith prefers. And he was happy to see his young Lady Pirate squad pass the test, though they may not have aced it. Polson kicked off the softball season with a major test against the Frenchtown Broncs last Thursday afternoon. And al...

Young Lady Bulldog squad loses to Lady Lions in first match

EUREKA — The inexperience of the young Lady Bulldogs showed up in a season-opening 5-1 loss to the Lady Lions. For most of the Lady Bulldogs, the match in Eureka Saturday was the first time they have ever played against another team, and they soon found that a competitve match is a far cry from prac...

Six Arlee tracksters place in first meet

MISSOULA — With very few practices behind them a young Scarlet squad scored 26 points to finish in eighth-place in the 15-team field and the Warriors had two individual athletes and two relay teams place at the first track meet of the season.
