Far above the rest

Add another divisional track title to the Lady Pirates’ record, their sixth over the last 11 years. And with three state title under their belt, they are definitely in the hunt for a fourth. The Polson girls swept through the competition at last weekend’s Northwestern A Divisional track and field meet in Libby, earning 11 individual event titles and racking up 216 points to easily out-distance the competition — Whitefish was second at 131.5 and Columbia Falls was third with 74.5 points. The Polson boys battled to a second-place finish with 122 points, behind champ Columbia Falls with 206. The number 13 was lucky for Polson, though luck certainly didn’t have ...

Not even close

There was no need for the Vikings to win the 1,600-meter relay — the final race of the Western C Divisional Track Meet. They had already sewn up their first divisional crown in 10 years, but after finishing in fourth place and just off of the podium the past four years, who can blame them if they wa...

Lady Bulldogs finish a game away from state tourney

THOMPSON FALLS — The Lady Bulldogs’ season came to an abrupt and disappointing end at the Western B-C Divisional Tournament in Thompson Falls Saturday. In the loser-out game, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t overcome a four-error, four-run inning and were eliminated from the inaugural division...

Maidens end season with a bang

WHITEFISH — During the offseason, the Ronan Maidens’ coach will probably be the first coach to lobby for a divisional tournament next year in the Northwestern A. After watching his young team close the season winning three of four games, with all three of their victories coming against teams b...

Two losses serve to refocus Lady Pirates before state

Finishing the regular season 1-2 wasn’t the way Polson’s Lady Pirates wanted to head into this weekend’s state Class A softball tournament, but that’s a reality they’ve had to face. And, hopefully, they’ve learned enough from those losses to spur them into a final winning ...

4 four-tunate ones

It was a good week for Polson tennis. Even the weather cooperated as the Polson girls wrapped up their fourth straight divisional tennis title and the boys’ top doubles team earned the tournament championship. Kalispell was host to the Northwestern A Divisional tennis tournament on Thursday and Frid...

Divisionals was good learning experience for young Ronan tennis squad

The young, developing Ronan tennis team finished off its season with some competitive performances at last week’s Northwestern A divisional tennis tournament in Kalispell. Although they played hard and learned a lot, the Ronan players did not finish in the top four placings, which would have qualified ...

"I did it"

When Mission’s Spencer Ahlborn smashed an overhead shot to win the 2010 Montana Class B-C Singles Championship and raised his arms in celebration on the University of Montana courts Saturday morning, only three words came to his mind. “I did it,” Ahlborn said is what he was thinking afte...

Read, Dumont, Sheridan and Nagy win average buckles in Deer Lodge

Members of the Mission Valley Rodeo Club split their time between rodeos in Deer Lodge and Shelby last weekend, with beautiful weather and plenty of competition at both locations, including a Wrangler Division rodeo in Shelby. In Deer Lodge, Jessica Read won both days of goat tying and Becky Jo Dumont won...

Havlovick, Davey lead Lady Pirates to Polson ABC title

POLSON — The Polson girls were dominant and the Polson boys showed signs of finally healing up at their own Polson ABC Track and Field Invitational last Saturday.  The Lady Pirates cruised to the team title with 148 points, far ahead of Hamilton (105) and Whitefish (78).  Loni Havlovick...
