Maidens have bittersweet trip down the Bitterroot

HAMILTON — With a young, inexperienced team, the Ronan softball coach knew the season would be filled with ups and downs – he just didn’t know they would come in one day. On a trip down the Bitterroot Saturday, Ronan coach Tom Peterson watched his team start doing the little things it takes to win a game against the Corvallis Lady Blue Devils in a 5-3 much-needed victory. The two-run victory against the Southwestern A Lady Blue Devils snapped a six-game losing streak for the Maidens, but unfortunately they didn’t get much time to enjoy it.  Right after the victory, the Maidens were on the bus for a game in Hamilton, where any momentum from the victory and ...

Lady Pirates win 7 events at Whitefish track meet, Pirates battle through injuries

It was a busy, weather-impacted week of track for the Polson squad, but the thinclads made the most of it, though short-handed on the boys’ side. Polson sent athletes to Tuesday’s Top 10 Invitational in Missoula on Tuesday, then they competed in Saturday’s A.R.M. track and field meet in Whi...

Despite the rough weather, the Ronan tennis team got in two conference duals last week, though the competition was a bit rough, too. On Friday at home, the Ronan boys lost to Columbia Falls 6-1 and Ronan’s girls’ squad also lost 6-1.  Jeff Blixt and Hunter Shima put together a 6-4, 6-2...

Mission tennis team getting ready for playoff run

ST. IGNATIUS — The Mission tennis coach was able to find the silver lining in the dark storm clouds this weekend. In the Lady Bulldogs’ 5-1 loss to Eureka in St. Ignatius Saturday, the only Lady Bulldogs to pick up a win was the new number one doubles team of Sarah Bowers and Becky Hiatt, a te...

Competitive week

It wasn't the smoothest of weeks but the Polson tennis team had its moments. On Friday the Polson girls rolled over Whitefish 7-0, but the Pirate boys came up short in a 4-3 dual loss to the Bulldogs. On Saturday, both Polson teams lost in Hamilton 4-3, then the split in an afternoon match against Corvall...

The undefeated season may be out of consideration, but Polson's Lady Pirate softball team sent a strong message that it remains a contender.
