Bringing home the hardware

The Charlo Vikings put an exclamation point on their most successful season in more than a decade with a second-place finish at the state tournament. On a rain-soaked Memorial Field in Great Falls Friday and Saturday, the Vikings used two dominant wins in the relays and senior Cody Nitschke’s record-breaking win in the 110 hurdles and second-place finish in the 300s to end a 10-year absence from the podium at the season’s final meet. The Vikings scored 56 points to finish eight points ahead of the third-place Ennis Mustangs. Joliet scored 89 points to become the 2010 state champions. The Vikings’ second-place plaque was their first trophy from the state meet since fi...

Team effort

Judged individually, they performed pretty darned well. But as a team they were head and shoulders above the rest.  Marking a season that just got better and better as the weeks went by, Polson’s Lady Pirates ended the track and field season with a stellar team performance that earned them a st...

Lady Pirates shrug off weather, battle through shortened tournament for fifth state softball crown

The Polson Lady Pirates softball team went over to Billings a young, talented squad that was dominant most of the season, but looked out of sync in losing two out of its three final regular season games. However, they came back champions, proving themselves on the state’s biggest, most grueling softbal...

The Mission Valley High School Rodeo Club members competed in the Darby Rodeo last weekend, the final rodeo before this weekend’s District 5 rodeo in Drummond. Michaela Blevins had a good weekend of cutting, including a first-place run in Shelby. She also took sixth in pole bending in Darby on Satur...

Far above the rest

Add another divisional track title to the Lady Pirates’ record, their sixth over the last 11 years. And with three state title under their belt, they are definitely in the hunt for a fourth. The Polson girls swept through the competition at last weekend’s Northwestern A Divisional track and fi...

Not even close

There was no need for the Vikings to win the 1,600-meter relay — the final race of the Western C Divisional Track Meet. They had already sewn up their first divisional crown in 10 years, but after finishing in fourth place and just off of the podium the past four years, who can blame them if they wa...

Lady Bulldogs finish a game away from state tourney

THOMPSON FALLS — The Lady Bulldogs’ season came to an abrupt and disappointing end at the Western B-C Divisional Tournament in Thompson Falls Saturday. In the loser-out game, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t overcome a four-error, four-run inning and were eliminated from the inaugural division...

Maidens end season with a bang

WHITEFISH — During the offseason, the Ronan Maidens’ coach will probably be the first coach to lobby for a divisional tournament next year in the Northwestern A. After watching his young team close the season winning three of four games, with all three of their victories coming against teams b...
