Upset-minded Chiefs focus on divisionals run

It sure wasn't the way they'd hoped to close out the regular season, but the Ronan Chiefs will hope to grind on it a bit, learn from it a lot, and then forget about it.  The Chiefs worked hard but couldn't stop the juggernaut Saturday night in Polson as the Pirates ran away with an 88-50 win in Linderman Gym. The Pirates didn't miss much, shooting 59 percent from the floor and putting up 55 points in the first half alone.  The Chiefs actually started well, building a 14-8 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Kevin Wroblewski scored twice early, then Jerod Tanner continued the run with a steal and a layup and a free throw before Justin Dusty Bull connected on a jumper....

Pirates tune up for divisional run with 88-50 win over Chiefs

POLSON — A slow start in both halves doomed the Polson Pirates in a showdown with the Columbia Falls Wildcats Thursday night, but they found their offense in a big way on Saturday night as Polson rumbled past Ronan in the regular season finale. The Wildcats took an early lead Thursday night, but thr...

Bulldogs come up a single game short of divisional tournament

LIBBY — The Mission Bulldogs played their best basketball of the season at the District 7-B Tournament, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the Western B Divisionals. Maybe it was the nerves of playing in their first postseason tournament in four years, maybe it was the pressure of being so clo...

RONAN — Two Eagle River couldn’t hold onto a fourth-quarter lead and ended their season with a 56-50 heartbreaking loss to the Noxon Red Devils at the District 14-C Tournament in Ronan Saturday.  After sophomore Skyler Rossbach hit a long-range 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Eagles a...

Bound and determined

The large crowd from Saturday that had filled the upper bleachers at the Ronan Event Center had dwindled down to a couple hundred and no longer drowned out the sounds of the game, but the Vikings made sure to silence any of the echoes of their past frustrations at the district tournament. The Vikings show...

Repeat performance

Trailing Charlo by 11 points with less than a minute and a half to play in the third quarter in the District 14-C championship game, none of the Warriors panicked – why should they, they’ve been there before. It was a new league and a new stadium, but the results were the same, as the Warriors...

Charlo football head coach announces resignation

CHARLO — Charlo football head coach Steve Love announced his resignation at the Feb. 15  Charlo School Board meeting. The announcement was met with great disappointment from the school board, staff and Superintendent Paul Jenkins. “I found Steve to be passionate, structured and dedicated,...

Bulldogs stumble into postseason

THOMPSON FALLS — Against Plains it was the first quarter, against Thompson Falls it was the second quarter, but in both cases one slow quarter cost the Bulldogs a chance at a conference victory. On Friday against the Horsemen in the Doghouse, the Bulldogs fell behind 16-6 after the first quarter and...

Vikings pick up a little steam before districts

CHARLO — The Charlo Vikings righted their ship heading into districts with an aggressive, shutdown defense, and they’ll have to continue playing that brand of defense if they plan on advancing to the divisional tournament. The Vikings stopped a two-game losing streak by holding the Philipsburg...
