Pirates' defense confounds Chiefs in 54-45 win

POLSON — The Polson Pirates split a pair of games last week, but won the one that counted the most. Polson picked up a conference win to improve to 2-0 in league play by topping Ronan 54-45 last Tuesday on the road. But the Pirates' defense struggled against Class AA Glacier Saturday night in Polson as they dropped a 74-61 non-conference game. Polson built on a 29-27 halftime lead with a 13-4 run in the third quarter, then held off Ronan in the fourth for the Northwestern A win. A third quarter man-to-man defense threw off the Chiefs. "In the first half, we sat in a zone (defense) and thought we'd press a little," Polson head coach Brad Pluff explained. "We thought that would...

At home Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs were ferocious on defense, not allowing a Lady Trojan to bring t...

Scarlets fall to district powerhouses

ARLEE — The Arlee Scarlets turned the ball over too many times and didn’t shoot well enough to beat the two toughest teams in District 14-C last week. In the Scarlets 46-14 loss to the Lady Vikings in Charlo Thursday and their 41-29 loss to the Savage Heat at home Saturday they turned the ball...
