Editor,

Regarding the article in the Aug. 27 issue of the Valley Journal about police chief interviews begin amid crime wave; it is a true fact is that the city of Ronan officials haven’t maintained the police department. Ronan Mayor Kim Aipperspach is now passing the blame against the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for not doing their job. The Sheriff’s department, along with myself, offered to help the city of Ronan, but they refused the offer. The Mayor is trying to pass the blame to take the eyes off of his incompetence.

Now the City Clerk, Ms. Kaylene Melton, stated that she disagrees with the Ronan citizens concerns with the increase in crime in their community and that crimes aren’t anything new in Ronan.

Well, Ms. Melton, you tell that to the crime victims who were hurt in criminal acts. The City of Ronan government officials are solely responsible for safety of its citizens. You have a budget for five police officers and a chief. Where are the police budget monies going? Ronan has two young officers putting in long, tiring hours without compensation, trying hard to provide protection for the community. I am also concerned about their safety. Mayor Aipperspach, the truth is that you are no police chief. You have no idea what a police chief does, nor what his officers do.
