FRENCHTOWN – The Pirates fell to Frenchtown but not without a fight, coming on strong but ending with a 3-4 loss.

“I felt like we started off slow and our first half wasn’t at the level it was in the Belgrade game,” Coach Jess Kittle said about the Pirates game this week as opposed to last. “In the second half we played better and connected on some quality passes and out-possessed Frenchtown through the midfield.”

Mike Mercer led in scoring, knocking two into the net — the first two goals of his varsity career — and adding an assist with Alex Helgeson.

Goalie Russ Smith knocked down two saves.

Kittle believes his boys are coming along and are showing improvement on the field.

“After working on ball possession, quality passing, and shooting this past week in practice, we showed improvement at keeping the ball in the midfield and making runs to open space to give our teammates good passing options,” Kittle said. “We will continue to work on our positioning and communication as well as finishing our shots on the goal.”

The Pirates will continue their game at home Sept. 18 against Bigfork.
