Editor,

The Ravalli GOP central committee is suing to stop our “open” primaries. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

They forgot: we had the primary; the party can again hold a caucus to eliminate non-believers or redraw voting districts again to “weed out” dissidents. Options include legislative action or a referendum. It boggles my mind that the political choice of action has become — file a suit. I am pretty certain “We The Lawyers” were not the words used by our founding fathers for a reason.

So why insanity? With the record setting nonperformance by our representatives including federally a government shutdown, a lowered credit rating for our country and currently sidestepping a responsibility to debate and establish our course of action in the Middle East, I conclude “We The People” are insane.

We vote for our party’s favorites, they vote for theirs. Neither side gets along with the other, themselves and/or the president. The result? A governing body which wastes our money, malfunctions, stagnates and earns their under 30-percent approval rating from us, their employers. Yet we accept excuses in place of work and let them keep their jobs. “It was the other guys fault” (sort of like the dog ate my homework) shouldn’t fly.

An idea: One party in power at a time. If we don’t like what they do or they can’t get done what’s needed … oust them. They are elected to do a job and should not keep theirs unless they perform. President Obama remains for the next two years so it makes sense to start by electing Democrats. Nothing against Republicans, this is just a timing issue. Electing Republicans now ensures another two years of head butting and proves our insanity.

Next cycle, if things aren’t fixed, oust um. Give Republicans the congress and Presidency. Now they have four years to show what they can do. If they can’t get it done, oust them. Maybe it’s a third party’s turn or an offshoot party that gets the message — performance, not rhetoric, is how you keep your job.
