ST. IGNATIUS – The Bulldogs face a “tough conference” according to head coach Rich Ferris, but working hard has been the mantra for a team in their position. While 2-3 on the season the Bulldogs are flirting with big wins boasting nine seniors and an arsenal of younger guys stepping it up on the field.

Senior Raymond Matt is confident his team is advancing in the right direction as planned and believes the Bulldogs have a bright future.

“I think every week our team gets better and that’s what we’ve been striving for,” Matt said. “Our ultimate goal, though, is to win football games and get into the playoffs.”

Ferris is pleased with his seniors.

“They’re all doing a really good job as far as being leaders,” Ferris said. “They’ve worked hard at practice, they’ve worked hard in the weight room this fall and they’re really trying to teach and encourage these younger kids. I’m really happy with our senior leaders.”

Due to Plains forfeiting on Friday, the Bulldogs played Glacier Wolfpack’s JV team for their Homecoming game on Saturday. Despite the 6-41loss, the Bulldogs put up 119 rushing yards with Matt leading the way running 68 yards on 10 carries. Quarterback Nick Durglo was 7-16 for 42 yards. Defensively Emilio Bravo took down four, adding three assists.

“Our kids played hard,” Ferris said. “It was a good test for us because they passed the ball so much and we’re going to see that in our conference.”

As the season progresses Ferris believes improvement is working its ways and is confident victory is on the horizon.

“Each game we’re just kind of taking it piece by piece, saying, ‘this is what we need to improve on,’” he said. “Just trying to get better every practice, just trying to get better every game.”

Mission will take their game to Deer Lodge Sept. 26 to take on the Wardens.
