POLSON – Who says baseball is only for the sunny days of summer? Not the Mariners, who started fall ball play with a close one against the Glacier Twins.

For baseball players in the valley, fall ball gives young players the opportunity to get a taste of Legion baseball and for return players, the opportunity gives them a chance to stay in shape and gain extra experience while not in regular season play.

In the fall ball opener, the M’s took on the Glacier Twins, conference foes of the M’s and the 2014 State champs. It proved to be a tough contest between the two teams with the Mariners falling behind by only a single run, 15-16, in the nine-inning game.

Derek Peel led the M’s both at the plate and on the mound, pitching two innings with a pair of K’s, allowing no runs or walks and going a perfect 2-2 with a triple and a double. Peel also knocked in two RBI’s. Trevor Paro added a 2-4 effort also with a double and a triple and two RBI’s.

With 26 six kids turning out to play, the Mariners have the chance to see players graduating into high school level play next season and to hone them into the higher level of baseball without the stress of regular season expectations.

The M’s will continue with their fall ball program as the weather allows, practicing throughout the week and picking up games on Sundays.
