Editor,

Women voters: Republicans do not support us. We have lost ground in Washington as the Republicans have voted against women’s reproductive rights, insurance, health care, Medicaid, protection from domestic violence and rape and social programs; against funding for Planned Parenthood, the Violence Against Women Act, and food stamps; against reducing taxes on middle-income Americans and against increasing the minimum wage. Every single Republican in the U.S. Senate voted against equal pay for equal work.

Steve Daines voted his party line. He is especially against equal pay. The one thing he voted for was the government shutdown.

Ryan Zinke is a flip-flopper, a political opportunist who has changed his position on abortion, gun control, unions and environmental protection to court big out-of-state money. He opposes equal opportunities for women in the military and is against the Affordable Care Act. He wants smaller government, the defunding of many social programs, but our tax dollars paid for his entire military career.

We do have voices. John Lewis, a Democrat running for the US house, and Amanda Curtis, also a Democrat and running for the US Senate, understand that health care, education (she is a teacher), protection against domestic violence (there is no “legitimate rape”), equal pay for equal work and diplomacy instead of war are not political issues. They are real-life issues, especially for women. Amanda Curtis and John Lewis support a woman’s right to determine her reproductive care. They support increasing the minimum wage, federal tax reform, and programs that assist women and children.

2014 is the 100th anniversary women’s right to vote in Montana. Make it count. Vote Democrat. Send John Lewis and Amanda Curtis to Washington to speak for us.
