Editor,

Read this. Contemplate this. Then try to live this.

If you are like me, the reading and the contemplating are fairly easy, it’s the living it that is hard.

Remember Jimi Hendrix? A good friend of mine gave me this Jimi Hendrix quote and suggested it might make a good subject for a letter to the editor. I took that advice.

Here’s the quote: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will have peace.”

This is probably not new to Jimi Hendrix fans, but it was the first time I had heard it.

There is really not much to add to what Jimi Hendrix said. There is for me, however, a whole lot to be learned by me in being with others, discussing this quote, sharing our stories, listening to each other and absorbing the deeper truths that can come into my personal awareness through a group process.

Right now, there are two inclusive groups I am involved in which offer this opportunity. One is Polson’s “JourneyBe” gathering each Sunday morning from 10 a.m. to noon. The other is a “Living the Questions” group meeting from 1-3 p.m. each Monday at the Methodist church in Polson. This “Living the Questions” video and discussion group “brings together over 30 highly acclaimed scholars, theologians and other experts in a video exploration of an open, inclusive, broad-minded Christianity.”

My point in all this is not to promote any particular venue for learning. That is up to each of us. My point is to simply relate, with my little story, what is working for me in helping me to hopefully respond to life somewhat in line with the Jimi Hendrix quote: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will have peace.” For me, my choices in group participation help me with this.
