DIXON — March...at last! Here comes Daylight Savings Time, St. Patrick’s Day and officially spring. How we gardeners perk up at the reports of spring sightings: bulbs are awakened from the winter sleep, bird calls have a special sound, stores have their planting supplies in place, even the catalogs are showing the next season’s attire. I’ve learned not to be taken in...there could be a blast of winter for some time yet.

Harley and Joey Hettick returned from their delightful cruise in the Caribbean and Roy and Delene Tufly enjoyed their first time in Hawaii. What a nice break from the usually cold, wintery weather. The melon report is that they are ordered in anticipation of our planting season coming up.

I had a very nice visit with Della Whipplinger recently. She is now in Extended Care at St. Luke’s in Ronan. We enjoyed remembering some of the friends from our center, and the funny times we had. Della is now 91 and looking sweet as always. My mother, Allene Cole, spent some time in Extended Care and was happy to meet up with Della. She is now back home in Charlo. Mom is 95. Our sole 90+ member at Dixon Senior Center, Betty Wetzel, continues to make it to every meal, pushing her 3-wheeled walker through whatever is in the way from her house.

“It’s easier than getting in and out of cars,” she’s stated.

We enjoyed a belated-gift exchange dinner this week. It was fun, even out-of-season. Speaking of dinner...you’re all invited at 5 p.m. every Friday and at lunchtime on Thursdays. It’s still just $4 and you can take home a meal. Here’s what’s coming up:

•  Thursday, March 5: tuna melts, pasta salad

•  Monday, March 9: hot dogs and mac ‘n cheese

•  Thursday, March 12: brunch-for-lunch -French toast, hash brown casserole, ham

All ages are welcome to join us.
