Memorial Day was celebrated Monday throughout Lake County to remember family and friends who lost their lives while bravely defending America’s freedom.

Events starting in Ronan with a parade down main street. A color guard led the lineup that in cluded members of the Ronan VFW and American Legion Post 138.

Marine WWII veteran and Salish elder Frances Stanger rode along the route accompanied by drummers in both Ronan and Polson parades.

The streets were a bit fuller in Polson, where The Great Scots bagpipers played a medley of Armed Forces songs and hymns as they passed saluting veterans watching at attention from the curb.

Ceremonies continued at cemeteries in Ronan, Polson and St. Ignatius throughout the midday.
