RONAN – The 18th annual Ronan Chamber of Commerce Crab Crack saw large crowds who laughed, sang, danced, and enjoyed a gorgeous last day of springtime along the banks of Bockman Park.

The community event brings people together for a good time in the park.

“It’s awesome,” chamber member Ronna Walchuk said. “We had a great turnout. I think everybody has enjoyed it. They keep coming back to tell us how good the crab is.”

Volunteer Dustin Clary manned the boiling station for the crab, and people raved.

“It’s excellent,” community member Frank Delgado said. “But it’s always excellent.”

Jack and Susan Lake also said they weren’t surprised that the food was so delicious.

“The crab is always really good,” Jack said. “It’s the weather that is always interesting.”

Far from the drizzle that pushed the previous event to shelter, the sun shined down and a light breeze carried the wafting smell of crab on the same winds that laughter from children frolicking on the splash pad and music from the boom box drifted on.

Three-year-old Rosalind Durrington, from her father’s shoulders, cheered on a flock of rubber ducks that were dumped from the bridge over Spring Creek in a race that floated the toys to the first drainage culvert. Brennin Grainey was there with a fishing net to catch the herd and help decipher the winners.

Chamber president Brandy Chisholm called the event a success.

“We appreciate the support from the community and volunteers,” Chisholm said. “We couldn’t do it without them.”
