RONAN — The nippy temperature climbed slowly toward 32 degrees Thursday morning as young artists bundled up to paint festive wintry scenes throughout downtown Ronan.

“It’s great not to be at school, but it’s freezing,” Ronan High senior Carsten Rhine said as she created snowflakes on the windows of a local business.

Thick mittens didn’t deter talented hands as other Ronan students in Michelle Mallon’s art class turned a paint/dish detergent mixture into colorful images of Santa, Mother Mary, reindeer and snow-covered trees.

“We’re all really into art,” junior Andrea Stevens explained.

Mallon said the students were volunteering to decorate businesses on Main Street as a community service project. She then encouraged her artists to go into a local business and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate.
