POLSON — A man who entered a Ronan day care while intoxicated Oct. 7, 2015, to pick up his children with whom he was not allowed contact, was sentenced on Wednesday to the Department of Corrections for five years with none suspended on a felony burglary conviction.

Jackson had pled guilty to the lesser offense of burglary on March 23 per the plea agreement. He had originally been charged with aggravated burglary for allegedly hitting the day care provider in the face, according to court documents.

Francis Jackson, 31, Arlee, had been previously released to complete a treatment program to address his alcohol addiction, but was kicked out after 54 days because he had been drinking.

Judge James Manley said Jackson’s incarceration time is suitable punishment for the severity of the crime and should allow time for treatment and rehabilitation of Jackson’s serious alcohol issues.

With family in attendance, Jackson tearfully apologized to the court.

“I just want to say that I am very sorry for the things that took place that night,” Jackson said, adding that what occurred was not his intentions and that he ruined the lives of his kids.

“I know I have a very serious problem with my alcoholism,” Jackson continued. “I wish ‘sorrys’ would fix things but I know they can’t. I ruined the lives of my kids.”
