Polson softball splashes through competition

dripping with ketchup, stands full of cheering parents, and softball fields clinking with the sound of bats connecting with the ball set the stage for the Polson Splash Softball Tournament this past weekend. Twentynine 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U teams took the field in hopes to come out on top. In the 14U and 16U division, it was Polson who dominated their home turf with both teams taking the title. 14U Polson Laker third baser Grace Garcia- Quinones said that her team’s strength of working together is what helped them succeed. “Our team is working on trying to communicate on the field, like saying where the play is and how many outs there are, “ Garcia- Quinones said. “Also, we are working on getting down and ready.” Her team went undefeated on the weekend and did it by maintaining a positive attitude. “What I am excited most about besides winning is that we kept playing our hardest and never gave up,” Garcia- Quinones said. The Polson 10U and 12U also played well, with both teams finishing third. “I am very proud because they kept playing strong and tried their hardest,” Garcia-Quinones said. Garcia-Quinones is looking forward and would like to work on her batting as the season progresses. The Polson teams will travel to Great Falls Friday, June 17-19 for another weekend of softball. Ronan’s Mighty Maidens 10U softball team also played in the Polson Splash tournament. Head Coach Laura Tenas was looking for growth from her younger players. “We have younger girls that are working on getting that self-confidence now that they are batting against a fast pitch,” Tenas said. “I want them to know that they can hit any ball.” The Mighty Maidens placed second and will continue to challenge themselves during practice. “We are always working on our fielding and hitting throughout the summer,” Tenas said. Tenas said that her athletes are strong base runners and have tremendous team bonding.
