Editor,

Hello. My name is Kimimi Ashley and I have been the high school tennis coach at St. Ignatius High School for the past 12 years. Being one of the smaller schools in the Class B division, during that time both our wrestling and softball programs (and track at times) have gone into co-op programs with Arlee and Charlo in order to keep the numbers of athletes high enough to be a competitive program.

Our high school tennis program is also in need of a co-op program to stay competitive and be able to share the great sport of tennis with schools that don’t have tennis courts. I have been advised by my current athletic director that the first step is to have athletes and/or their guardians request a tennis co-op be added to their choice of Spring Sports. They can request this with their A.D. and their local school boards. As a second step, you could also make this interest known to the St. Ignatius athletic director and to myself. I was convinced to further inquire into a co-op when non-tennis players show up at our tennis practices/ meets and have fun and state that they wish tennis was offered at their schools. I think the interest is out there and just needs to be offered. Thanks for your thought into this and may tennis be a good part of more people’s lives.
